Independent Newspapers Nominates Governor Monday Okpebholo for Platinum Award as Education Ambassador

The Leadership of Independent Newspapers has nominated the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the prestigious Platinum Award as Education Ambassador, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the transformation of the Education sector in Edo State.

Since assumption of office, Governor Okpebholo has prioritized Education as a foundation for sustainable development. Working in synergy with the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, his administration has recruited over 600 new teachers and constructed/ renovated over 65 public schools across the state in 8months. He has also increased the subvention of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, from ₦40 million to ₦500 million, a decisive step that revived the institution and resolved long-standing crises.

In addition, Governor Okpebholo facilitated the induction of over 1,000 Medical and Nursing students who had been stranded for 4years under the previous administration. He also addressed the eight-year AAU JAMB regularization bottleneck, thereby enabling over 1,000 students to regularise their admissions and qualify for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Currently, the Government is building a 600-capacity hostel and a 1,500-capacity lecture theatre to further strengthen tertiary education infrastructure and across the state Education eco system,the new minimum wage has been fullly implemented with a 5,000 increment.

In collaboration with the NDDC, his administration has also facilitated the construction of a 5km internal road in Usen Polytechnic after 23years of its establishment,bringing relief to the Polytechnic community.
Additionally, in synergy with the Federal Government Nelfund program, no child in any tertiary institution in Edo State is being sent home for fees making Education moreorless free.

At the basic education level, Governor Monday has fully implemented the legacy of free primary education and also launched the "Edu Rescue initiative" aimed at bringing children on the streets back to School where they belong, ensuring that every Edo child have access to quality, tuition-free learning in a conducive environment.
In collaboration with the bill and belinda Gates foundation, Educert 2.0 was launched to eliminate certificate falsification, ensure digitalisation and authentication of all results as a result of the Digital public infrastructure. With this all students and Guardians can print all certificate online without paying a dime to anyone.

According to Independent Newspapers, Governor Okpebholo’s investments, advocacy, and commitment to child education resonate across Nigeria, making him deserving of the Education Ambassador honor.

The Platinum Award ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event will feature a public lecture by Professor Barth Nnaji, while President Bola Tinubu, the Distinguished Guest of Honour, will confer posthumous legacy awards on Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Re; Electoral fraud memorial rally.

Edo people must be marvelled by the audacity of PDP'S henchmen to spread misinformation.

The attention of our team, has been drawn to a purported memorial rally, which is being scheduled to hold in September, on the exact date, Edo governorship election was conducted in 2024, by some faces whose allegiance has been well identified to be with that of the defunct ruling party in the state.

These individuals, who now seek to unjustly divide the attention of the good people of Edo State, have obviously refused to move on after the shocking defeat handed to their party the PDP and their principal, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, who was defeated in a peaceful electoral process.

Prior to this time, these individuals, who are bent on standing truth on its head, were same persons who claimed that they had a very good case in the court and were very confident that what they had in terms of evidence against the victory of His Excellency Sen. Monday Okpebholo the Executive Governor of Edo, was too concrete to be dismissed by any court of competent jurisdiction.

Unfortunately, after all the media Jamboree where they preempted the judgement of the courts in their favour, which made them to openly taunt Sen. Monday Okpebholo after his victory and inauguration even up to the point of tagging him a six months governor, they ended up suffering a blue eye from the hands of judiciary following the stand of the court on Edo election, where they counted their loses from the tribunals to the supreme court.

For the people of Edo State, the Supreme Court judgement, signaled the end of all political tussle and provided a time to rally round the government of the day, to deliver on its promises to the Edo people, either by constructive criticism for those in the opposition or canvasing for the government to succeed by promoting it policies and projects.

One thing Edo people certainly never bargain for was the surfacing of these individuals who still lick their wounds and nurse pains from the last election to come up with this distraction called memorial rally, at a time where the people of the state have just began to count their gains in the areas of infrastructure development, education, healthcare, civil service reforms, agriculture and lots more with reasons to be greatful for the emergence of Sen. Monday Okpebholo and Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa and their good works in the state.

The memorial rally is one which obviously can be seen through as having selfish and self seeking objectives, which does not align with the interest and wishes of the people at this point, as the goodwill enjoyed by this administration from the people has been so overwhelming that even most of those from the PDP extraction, have ditched their party at intervals, to rally around the governor.

Hence accusing such an administration founded on wide spread support from party divides to be a product of fraud would be prime dishonesty on the part of the organisers of such rally. Contrary to the position of these individuals in their minority, Edo people acknowledge on daily basis the mandate they have freely given to this administration, which has been authenticated even in the eyes of the law.

Edo Education Commissioner, Dr Paddy Iyamu Celebrates Esama of Benin at 91

*EDO STATE FORESTRY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN VISITS OKOMU FOREST RESERVE AND NATIONAL PARK, REITERATES GOVERNMENT'S COMMITMENT TO BIODIVERSITY PROGRAMS*

In line with its mandate to facilitate the proper utilization, preservation, and protection of forest and wildlife resources, the Chairman of the Edo State Forestry Commission, Hon. Valentine Asuen, paid a courtesy visit to the Okomu Forest Reserve , National Park.

During the visit, Hon. Asuen reiterated the commitment of the Edo State Government, led by Senator Monday Okpebholo, to biodiversity programs in the state. He emphasized the government's determination to preserve and protect the state's forest and wildlife resources for future generations.

As part of the visit, Hon. Asuen met with members of the African Nature Investors Foundation (ANI) and toured the Okomu National Park to inspect projects initiated by the foundation in collaboration with the Edo State Government.

The Chairman's tour included an inspection of an 30-bedroom apartment built by the Edo State Government in collaboration with the African Nature Investors Foundation (ANI) to provide accommodation for rangers and enhance security within the park.

Mr. Osaze Eghosa Lawrence, the Conservator of the Okomu National Park, thanked Hon. Asuen for the visit and appreciated the support given by the Edo State Forestry Commission to the park. He solicited for more support and partnership to enable the park to achieve its objectives.

Ozolua Grammer School, a Government owned college in Edo State has emerged the winner at the Robotics Competition organised by the Nigerian Content Development & Monitoring Board in South South,Nigeria.

Speaking at the reception of the Students in his office where he gifted them 400,000, the Honourable Commissioner for Education reiterated the commitment of His Excellency Senator Monday Okpebholo in ensuring that the children of the common man is giving an opportunity at the table of success.

With the Governor providing leadership, we are commited to building schools,employing more teachers and improving the standards even as it relates to the technological advancement in today's world, he added.

He encouraged the children to daily strive for success by studying as the Government will continually give them wings to fly even better than the private schools

*EDO STATE FORESTRY COMMISSION CHAIRMAN INSPECTS FOREST PLANTATION IN IGUOBAZUWA FOREST RESERVE, REITERATES GOVERNMENT'S COMMITMENT TO REFORESTATION*

As part of the Edo State Government's effort to promote sustainable forestry management, the Chairman of the Edo State Forestry Commission, Hon. Valentine Owamagbe Asuen, embarked on an inspection tour of the forest plantations in Iguobazuwa Forest Reserve in Ovia South West Local Government Area.
