AAU BOLSTERS CAMPUS SECURITY AFTER FATAL INCIDENT INVOLVING NON STUDENT
Ekpoma – Ambrose Alli University (AAU) has taken decisive action to tighten campus security following the tragic killing of a non-student on university grounds. At a press briefing held on Thursday at the administrative building, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunday Olowo Samuel emphasized that the victim was an intruder, not a student, dispelling earlier speculation.
According to Prof. Samuel, the unidentified man was forcibly brought into the campus in a vehicle, attacked near one of the hostels, and subsequently killed in a nearby bushland.
In response, the institution has barred unauthorized individual students and visitors alike from driving onto campus without proper identification and engagement with armed security personnel to fortify access control.
The decision follows reports that unscrupulous individuals, including internet fraudsters commonly known as “Yahoo Boys,” had been using the university as a hideout. Management views the heightened security as essential to preserving peace, especially with suspects already apprehended and transferred to the State CID in Benin City.
Prof. Samuel also highlighted the broader context: under his stewardship, AAU has seen notable reforms, including improvements in academic processing, reinstatement of displaced staff, and new scholarship and digital initiatives. These strides, he says, reflect renewed institutional harmony a stability recognized with the “Niger Delta Award for the Most Peaceful Educational Institution in Nigeria,” while he received the “Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award” for his leadership.
The administration has affirmed that peace had been restored. With the security enhancements now in place, students, staff, and visitors can expect a safer, more orderly campus environment.
