From forests and wetlands to grasslands and oceans, protected and conserved areas sustain biodiversity, people and cultures — and strengthen resilience in a changing world.
Yet their full potential is still far from realised. We need to move faster and at greater scale.
Speaking at in Mongolia, IUCN Director General Grethel Aguilar looked ahead to the IUCN World Protected and Conserved Areas Congress 2027 and the opportunity to raise ambition worldwide.
The road to 2027 is about more than one event. It is a chance to bring different voices together, share what works, build stronger partnerships and accelerate action.
