“DON’T OPEN THE DOOR. WHATEVER YOU DO.”
At exactly 11:47 p.m., Michael’s phone buzzed on the table.
The house was silent except for the slow ticking of the clock and the rain tapping against the windows.
He glanced at the screen.
A new voice note.
From his wife.
Michael stopped breathing.
His wife had been dead for three years.
For several seconds, he didn’t touch the phone. The screen dimmed, then lit up again as another message arrived.
His fingers felt cold.
Finally, he pressed play.
Static crackled through the speaker.
Then came a whisper—faint, trembling, unmistakable.
“Michael… I know who killed me.”
The voice note ended.
A sharp knock struck the front door.
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.
Michael’s chair scraped against the floor as he stood.
The rain seemed to grow louder.
His phone vibrated again.
Another voice note.
He opened it.
His wife whispered:
“Whatever you do, DON’T LET HIM IN.”
A second knock shook the door.
Michael moved toward the window, each floorboard creaking beneath his feet. He lifted the curtain just enough to see the gate.
A man stood beneath the streetlight, perfectly still.
Rain ran from his shoulders.
Then he raised his face.
Michael’s phone slipped from his hand.
It was his wife’s older brother—the same man who had stood beside her grave three years earlier.
The man looked directly at the window.
Then he shouted through the rain:
“I know you received the voice notes.”
Michael stumbled backward.
The house fell silent again.
Then, from behind him, a woman’s voice whispered:
“Michael…”
His blood turned cold.
He slowly turned toward the bedroom.
The door was opening by itself.
And from the darkness inside, someone began to breathe.
