NNPC Extends Petrol Discount To October 31, Denies Subsidy Return

Nu The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has extended its petrol discount across retail outlets nationwide until October 31, stressing that the initiative does not amount to a return of fuel subsidy.

The company disclosed this in a press release issued on Friday, October 9, by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, following recent comments by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on rising petrol prices.

INEC Begins PVC Distribution As 2026 Registrants Miss Out

Collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) has commenced at Araromi-Ilogbo Secondary School, Oko-Afo, Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, but cards for some categories of applicants remain unavailable.

Findings by National Parrot during a visit to the collection centre on Friday showed that PVCs were available for new registrants who completed the online Continuous Voter Registration exercise in 2025, while cards for applicants who registered in 2026 had yet to be printed.

IYD 2026: Youths Challenge Political Exclusion, Demand Seat At Decision-Making Table

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Olorunda Local Branch, has called for greater youth participation in political decision-making, urging young people to move beyond the sidelines and actively shape policies affecting their future.

The demand was made by the branch coordinator, Comrade Sodiq Balogun, during the 2026 International Youth Day (IYD) celebration organised by the council yesterday, at the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Multipurpose Hall, Olorunda LCDA Secretariat, Iworo, Lagos State.

South-West Voters Group Endorses SDP Presidential Candidate, Pledges 6m Votes

The South-West Voters Association of Nigerian Youths (SWAVANY) has endorsed SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo and set a six-million-vote target for him in 2027.

According to the SWAVANY President and Convener, Otunba Subomi Kolawole, the endorsement followed a three-month internal process involving manifesto reviews, town hall meetings and consultations across the South-West.

The group said its decision was based on its assessment of Adebayo’s policies, character and capacity to address economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, energy challenges and other concerns confronting Nigerians.

NCDC Issues Guidelines As Ebola Resurges In Region

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has heightened vigilance after Kenya confirmed an imported Ebola case linked to the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The NCDC disclosed this in a statement issued by its Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The confirmed case, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, involved a Kenyan citizen who had been living in the DRC before travelling by road to Kampala, Uganda, and later flying to Nairobi.
