Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan Commissions School Buildings, Launches Free School Ride, and Distributes Educational Materials to Over 2,000 Students in Badagry
In an effort to elevate the standard of education in Badagry Federal Constituency, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, Member of the House of Representatives has commissioned a series of landmark educational projects across the constituency.
At an big attended event held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Mowo Community Secondary School, Osun-Egbado, Mowo, in Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Whingan unveiled a comprehensive package of educational initiatives designed to improve access to quality education, foster academic excellence, and provide critical support to students, teachers, and schools.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Whingan reaffirmed his deep commitment to ensuring that no child in Badagry is left behind in the pursuit of education. “It is with great pride and a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today to celebrate a transformative moment for education in Badagry,” he said. “We gather not only to distribute materials but to honor a legacy and build a future where every child can thrive.”
He added, “As your representative, I am committed to providing the resources our children need to succeed. These efforts reflect a broader vision to create a dignified, well-equipped, and supportive learning environment for every student.”
Hon. Whingan commissioned several key projects and launched impactful educational programs across the constituency. These include the construction of a new block of six classrooms at Mowo Community Secondary School and a four-classroom block at Anglican Primary School, Gbanko. He also commissioned the renovation of 14 toilet units at Ansar-Ud-Deen Junior Grammar School and six classrooms at St. Leo’s Primary School, Ilhoga.
To address transportation challenges faced by students, he launched the Sesi Whingan Badagry School Free Ride initiative, introducing two fully equipped school buses to provide safe and reliable transportation for pupils.
Furthermore, Hon. Whingan distributed over 2,000 pairs of school sandals to students and supplied public schools with vital educational materials, including mathematical sets, scientific calculators, notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, whiteboards, blackboards, dusters, and school office supplies. Teachers also received stainless steel lunchboxes as a token of appreciation for their invaluable work.
To enhance classroom learning conditions, new desks and chairs were provided to several schools across the constituency, ensuring a conducive and comfortable environment for pupils and students.
These initiatives form part of Hon. Whingan’s broader agenda to drive sustainable development through education and uplift communities by investing in the next generation. Citing Badagry’s historical role as the birthplace of Western education in Nigeria, he emphasized the need to preserve and strengthen this legacy.
“This historic milestone reminds us of the power of education to change lives and the responsibility we have to sustain this legacy,” Hon. Whingan noted, referencing the founding of Nigeria’s first primary school in Badagry by the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1842.
Encouraging the students, he said, “Study hard, stay curious, and never stop believing in yourselves. You are part of a proud legacy, and I have no doubt that you will make us proud.”
He also acknowledged the vital roles played by teachers and parents in shaping the future: “Teachers, you are molding the minds of tomorrow. Parents, your sacrifices are the bedrock of our children’s success.”
The event was graced by a distinguished array of guests and stakeholders. Among them were the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic Education, Mr. Tolani Jamiu Alli-Balogun, represented by the Tutor-General and Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Education District V, Mr. Hassan Dauda Abiodun; and the Chairman of the Lagos State Basic Education Board, Dr. Hakeem Sh*ttu, represented by Mrs. Twin Hilda.
Mrs. Modinat Adebayo, Education Secretary for Badagry, commended the initiative, stating, “This is not the first time Hon. Whingan has supported our schools. His consistent efforts have significantly improved our educational landscape.”
Hon. Samuel Sejoro, former member of the House of Representatives, praised Whingan’s proactive leadership: “Sesi Whingan, you are starting well and early. Your dedication to education is evident, and I urge Badagrians to support him for a second term.”
Also present were traditional rulers, political leaders and APC members, community leaders, school heads, parents, students and pupils from all public schools in Badagry, as well as students from two private schools—all gathered to witness and celebrate this investment in their future.
In closing, Hon. Whingan reiterated his unwavering commitment to development across the constituency: “We will continue to prioritize education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment to ensure Badagry remains a beacon of progress.”
