The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Badagry Joint Task Force, has successfully dismantled a suspected illicit job recruitment syndicate operating in Ajara T**a, Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, resulting in the detention of 19 individuals.
The operation, conducted at Yemat Close in Ajara T**a, followed intelligence gathered after a complaint was lodged by one of the suspected victims. Among those detained are three foreign nationals, comprising two citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo and one from the Republic of Benin.
Authorities are conducting ongoing investigations to determine the extent of each individual's involvement and ascertain whether any criminal offences were committed. Preliminary findings indicate that the operation was triggered by a distress call from a young man from Benue State, who alleged that he was deceived with promises of securing employment. The complainant reportedly informed investigators that upon arrival in Lagos, he was demanded to pay โฆ1.3 million before being offered the promised job, raising concerns over his treatment and the activities of the organisation.
The joint operation led to the discovery of the suspected recruitment centre, where all 19 occupants were apprehended for questioning. Detectives are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the operation and determine whether the suspects were involved in an organised employment scam or other criminal activities.
This latest discovery is part of growing concerns over fraudulent recruitment syndicates targeting desperate job seekers with promises of lucrative employment opportunities. The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public of thorough investigations and prosecution of anyone found culpable in accordance with the law, while also advising job seekers to verify employment offers through legitimate channels and exercise caution when dealing with organisations demanding large payments as a condition for securing jobs.
