Culled from my earliest experience more than two decades ago when I enrolled at the Bible College. One of my biggest moments was when I realised what the Bible really entailed. The Concept of Revelation, God's self disclosure, as a foundation for understanding how to interact with scriptures bedazzled my mind.

Engage, think through and study along side with me in the first of many expose on the nature, authority and impact of the Word of God.

Let us go back to the Bible!

5 Scriptures Used to Promote Pop-Confession (5/5)
#5. Mark 11:22-25.

This text of scripture is one of the most misunderstood yet pivotal for people who subscribe to Pop-confession.
Three elements are worthy of note in understanding the above text.

First, the Main Point: which is what Jesus said to his disciples after they observed that the fig tree he cursed had withered; “HAVE FAITH IN GOD!”

Second, the Illustration: which he used to show the power of an unflinching trust in God. That a mountain (the biggest possible entity in human imagination) would be displaced permanently if one believes in God!

Third & more importantly, the Application: note that Jesus said to them “therefore when you pray…”, Jesus was enjoining the disciples to believe God when they pray. And to emphasize it, warns against unforgiveness which will hinder their prayer.

Simply put: we are not instructed to speak to mountains or ‘confess’ to things or situations but to pray to God in faith.
That also explains why that analogy is not used anywhere in the New Testament; but the instruction to pray is in literally every book of the New Testament.
In conclusion pop-confession is unbiblical!

5 Scriptures Used to Promote Pop-Confession (4/5)
#4. Job 22:28-29

“When there is a casting down, ye shall say: a lifting up; and the light will shine on your ways”
This is a direct quote from Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends, as he accused him of being sinful and thus suffering the consequence.
In simple terms, Eliphaz believed that when one lives holy, he could confess the opposite of his reality and life would conform to his declaration.

Nothing is further from the truth! Job in-fact lived holy but underwent intense suffering. And to crown to it all, God personally rebuked Job’s friends for their unguarded utterances and wrong theology!

This scripture does not teach that we are to say the opposite of our reality or that living holy gives us the power to do same. This is clear as we see God’s response to such thought or utterance. Selah!

5 Scriptures Used to Promote Pop-Confession (3/5)
#3. Joel 3: 9 - 13.

“Let the weak say: I am strong”. A scripture often quoted and sung but is misunderstood by most to mean, you have to declare or confess the opposite of your reality.

Here, God was speaking judgement against Israel’s enemies and challenged them by saying even if they psyched themselves by saying “I am strong “, He will destroy all of them.

So please, observe the context of most of the pithy sayings we make particularly as they appear in scripture and take the side of scripture over and above the high sounding declarations that are in variance to that which is clearly written. Selah!

5 Scriptures Used to Promote Pop-Confession (2/5)
#2. Numbers 14:28,29

This is one of the most misconstrued text of scripture people use to claim that God waits on your utterances to determine your realities.

True, God in judging the Jews in Moses’ time, used their complaints as His means of judgement.
This is however NOT NORMATIVE for God nor does He promise that is the way He will deal with us. If that were the case, most of us will not be alive to tell the tale.

The Peculiar nature of the text is in the context of divine judgment on a stubborn and unbelieving nation…they tested God 10times!

5 Scriptures Used to Promote Pop-Confession (1/5)
#1. 2 Kings 4: 8-37.

The myth of saying “All is well” to evidently contrary situations is being examined from its source scripture.
Here, the Shunamite woman only answered “All is well” to the folks that weren’t instrumental to solving her problem; which was the sudden death of her son.
When she eventually arrived at the feet of the prophet, she did not say: “All is well”.

This text is not proof that when we’re in difficult situations, we are meant to say or declare the opposite of our reality.

Our confession of faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ is not a private matter. It isn’t just to be muttered under our breath. It is meant to be made publicly and in the presence of ‘many’ witnesses.
