*PRESS STATEMENT ON ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF HON. LADI OMIFARE AKA OMOLUABI ON 28TH MAY, 2017*
Gentlemen of the press,
We received with rude shock the news of the assassination attempt to cut short the precious life of Hon. Ladi Omifare, one of the chairmanship aspirants of All Progressive Congress (APC) in Somolu.
This vicious attempt happened yesterday, 28th of May at his campaign office in broad daylight by some unscrupulous elements whose identities are known.
We hereby condemn in the strongest terms this cold-blooded assassination attempt and the intimidation, harrassment, victimization and all forms of attacks meted out to his supporters.
Suffice to say that, Hon. Ladi Omifare had served in different capacities at both local and state levels and throughout his days in public glare and after, Hon Omifare Omoluabi has never involved in any villainous or nefarious activities that could soil his image or that of others.
He is a complete gentle, magnanimous and God fearing man. He is a philanthropist who desires a bright future for all and sundry.
Disappointedly, we are saddened that with all these virtues employ and deploy by this amiable man at all time, some unscrupulous elements still want him dead.
It Is important to state clearly that this is not an attempt to vilify anybody but to unveil to the world the truth behind this nefarious plot and the masterminds.
However, we wish to inform you all that a petition has been sent to the Police Area command on 28th May, 2017 to that effect which reveals the following:
1.That the following persons Hon. Ademorin kuye, Mr. Yesuru and Mr. Saheed Benson are on a desperate mission to assassinate Hon. Ladi Omifare.
2.That there was a phone conversation on 28th of May, 2016 at about 3:30pm between Mr. Yesuru (Caller) and Hon. Omoluabi that all plans have been perfected to have him assassinated because of his refusal to give in to pressure by giving up his chairmanship aspiration.
3.That on the same day, Hon Ladi Omifare got a distress call from his campaign office located at number 7, George Street, Somolu that a gang of about 7 able bodied men with riffles and cutlasses led by Mr Yesuru and Mr Saheed had stormed the office with instruction from Hon. Kuye to assassinate me (Hon. Ladi Omifare) and destroy his campaign banners. It was a miracle how the innocent people they met in the office escaped unhurt through the back door.
At this juncture, I know many will be wondering the involvement of Hon. Kuye and why he wanted Hon. Ladi Omifare dead despite their long cordial relationship.
This is very unimaginable but not farfetched. The main event which led to the falling out of the duo was the resistance of Hon. Ladi Omifare against the wish of Hon. Kuye to impose his Mistress, one Yemi Basua as Chairpersonship candidate of Somolu Local Government about two years ago.
As a comrade and defender of justice, Hon Ladi Omifare made it clear to him that it was a gross misuse of influence and that there are better and acceptable ways to reach a consensus on who becomes the flag bearer of APC chairmanship candidate in Somolu Local Government.
That was the beginning of this vindictive mission.
We want to use this medium to call on all stake holders in All Progressives Congress (APC), that a dangerous precedent is being set in our beloved party in Somolu Local Government if the action of Hon. kuye is allowed to thrive.
We are also appealing to the law enforcement agencies and the general public that this is not just a sensitive matter but a matter of national importance and must be accorded such.
To round up, we hereby once again strongly request the Nigeria police and other sister organisations to intensify their efforts in ensuring that these perpetrators are brought to book within 48 hours as nobody has the right whatsoever to take another man’s life except Almighty God.
