A tragic attack in Riyom LGA, Plateau State, has claimed the life of Abdulrahman Ibrahim, 25, and severely injured Abbas Sa'idu, 18, and Bashiru Rabiu, 15, amidst concerns over the repeated targeting of Fulani herders, allegedly by Berom militia.
It can also be recalled that about 5 herders were also killed by the same militia on Tuesday 16 June 2026.

INCIDENT REPORT

A Fulani herder, Auwal Gambo has been confirmed dead following an alleged unprovoked attack by Berom militia in the Sabon gida (Gero) area of Jos South on Tuesday, 16 June 2026. The incident also reportedly resulted in the death of several cattle as attached.

In a separate incident on the same day at Nyongo, also within Jos South, four herders were reported missing, including a young boy identified as Amir, alongside Yahuza, Ado, and another herder whose identity is yet to be confirmed.

These incidents come amid growing concerns over recurring attacks targeting pastoral communities. Additionally, in Wereng Camp, Riyom, another attack was reported in which a cow sustained severe gunshot injuries.

Community members are calling on security agencies to urgently investigate the incidents, ensure the safe recovery of the missing persons, and bring those responsible to justice in order to prevent further escalation and promote lasting peace.

Herders in Sopp Village, Riyom LGA of Plateau State, have reportedly agreed to pay ₦1 million in compensation to 11 farmers for farmland destruction caused by their cattle, following intervention by Operation Enduring Peace troops and community leaders.
This resolution aims to prevent the escalation of tensions and promote peaceful coexistence, with compensation to be paid via the local MACBAN chairman.
The success of this intervention highlights the importance of military and stakeholder engagement in conflict resolution. It is hoped that this level of diligence will also be applied to incidents of cattle harm or destruction by farming communities, ensuring justice and peace for all parties.

Ibrahim Bappa, a Fulani herder, was reportedly shot dead by a suspected Mwagavul militia near River Halle in Mangu LGA on the evening of Sunday, 14 June 2026. This marks the second such incident in the area, following the reported injury of another herder and attack on his cattle around Gindiri a few weeks earlier. These repeated attacks are seen as unprovoked and appear intended to provoke the peaceful and law-abiding herding community in the area.
