I have written about Ali Pate in the past. I have praised his appointment as Minister. I naturally should. I love intelligent people who demonstrate competence in what they do. I only met him once and interviewed him once, when he contested the election under the PRP.
That interview was in 2019. I went in with admiration. I came out with admiration. The man had ideas. The man had a pedigree. The man had everything Bauchi could ask for in a governor.
During the election, he got a few thousand votes. The number is in INEC’s records. Anyone can check.
A lot has happened since. He was selected to lead GAVI, the global Vaccine Alliance. Then President Tinubu called him home. He is now the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. He oversees the health of more than 220 million Nigerians.
This is a serious man. This is a globally serious man.

A deputy chairman of Darazo Local Government paid ₦20,000 for 50 hectares of protected forest land — ₦400 per hectare for land that smallholder farmers would later buy from him and others like him at ₦35,000 per hectare. Sixteen people are now dead.

Payment receipts and official allocation letters obtained by WikkiTimes show that parts of the Aliya and Yautare forest reserves — gazetted public land under Bauchi State authority — were distributed in 2022 to politically connected individuals and traditional rulers at prices no ordinary farmer could access. Those first-tier beneficiaries resold their parcels into a secondary market at markups of up to 8,650 percent, leaving smallholder farmers holding government-issued documents for land that herders, displaced from their traditional grazing routes by the same scheme, would later reclaim by force

Five thousand and fifty local government workers in Ningi and Warji — cleaners, teachers, nurses, and clerks — had money deducted from their October and November 2025 salaries without their consent. The stated purpose: to fund the coronation of the 17th Emir of Ningi.

Assuming every one of them earns no more than the ₦70,000 national minimum wage — the least the law permits any employer to pay — the five percent deduction spread across two months generated a minimum of ₦17.7 million: ₦11.375 million from Ningi’s 3,250 workers and ₦6.3 million from Warji’s 1,800. That is the most conservative figure possible. For senior civil servants, teachers on consolidated salary scales, and medical officers whose deductions could reach ₦6,000 or more over the two months, the actual amount extracted is almost certainly higher. Neither local government has disclosed the true figure.

While the Enugu State government is committing billions of naira to the construction of new “Smart Schools,” pupils and teachers in existing primary schools continue to learn in unsafe and degrading conditions. In the first of this two-part series, ARINZE CHIJIOKE looks at how schools lack basic needs like security, functional toilets, electricity, and weatherproof classrooms, exposing children to physical danger and health risks.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has denied the existence of any faction within its ranks, describing claims by a group identifying itself as “PRP-Vanguard Collective” as baseless and misleading.

At just 14, Ahmed Umar knew the streets of Brigade better than he knew a classroom.

From Yan Doya to Yan Gwan Gwan, he knew many other locations known for social vices like phone snatching, theft, drug abuse, and many others.

Long before he picked up a clipper, his hands ran errands for older boys involved in petty theft, and sometimes acted as a lookout when fights broke out at odd hours.

When rising insecurity in Kwara State pushed authorities to clear the forested areas in the northern part of the state to flush out armed groups, Gbugbu-Lafiagi forest became a major target.

However, what began as a security intervention has evolved into largely unregulated logging, accelerating deforestation and exposing weak enforcement of environmental laws, findings by this reporter show.

Once a dense ecosystem of diverse plant species, the Gbugbu-Lafiagi forest had reportedly served as a hideout for criminal groups. In 2025, the state government, in collaboration with the Lafiagi Emirate, opened parts of the forest for clearing.

Obtaining an indigene certificate in Kano State is supposed to involve a strict verification process designed to confirm a person’s local origin. But in Dala Local Government Area, the process has quietly been turned into a lucrative bribery scheme, allowing applicants to obtain the document within minutes without undergoing the required checks.

A Bauchi-based lawyer, Safiyanu Gambo Idress, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Mr Idress, who is also the national coordinator of the PRP Glory Restoration Group, said his ambition is driven by a desire to “restore Bauchi State to its lost glory.”

Mornings in Gwoza local government of Borno state used to begin quietly, with the sounds of people waking early to go to their farms, prepare food, and send their children to school. But in 2014, that calm morning suddenly changed. Gunshots echoed in the distance, people started shouting, and panic quickly spread through the village.
