MALAM MAMMAN KUSU THE FIRST SARKIN YAKIN BAUCHI HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS ALHAJI ALIYU YAKUBU LAME THE FIRST EMIR OF LAME 1809 TO DATE (216 YEARS)
The provision of the Bauchi State Chieftaincy Law, 2025 beyond any reasonable doubt (rationally) one of the most democratically and people oriented phenomenon ever done to the entire people of Bauchi State by the abled leadership of His Excellency, Amiable, Brilliant, Charismatic and Dutiful Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya) Executive Governor of Bauchi State. Since the creation of the state fifty (50) years ago. The creation of additional Emirates, Chiefdom, Districts and Ward Heads across the state takes government closer to the people, and touches their lives in all ramification. This cannot be over emphasized for it will remain a monument for reference to the generations yet unborn.
LAME EMIRATE AT A GLANCE (1809 – DATE)
Lame Emirate does have a long administrative history as it dates back to 1909 when the Malam Yakubun Bauchi the first emir went to Sokoto to receive a flag that symbolized an authority for the creation of Bauchi Emirate along with Madakin Bauchi, Sarkin Yakin Bauchi (Mamman Kusu), Ajiyan Bauchi and Wamban Bauchi respectively.
For some obvious reasons, the Emir of Bauchi Malam Yakubu was the Chief Warrior of the Caliphate (Sarkin Yakin Daular Usmaniyya), and none of these wars was fought without our hero-Mamman Kusu (the First Sarkin Yakin Bauchi) playing a leading roles. In fact, the history of Bauchi Emirate is absolutely in complete without lame emirate because it was part and parcel of the Emirate. Origin and history are two things that can never be changed, hence the history of Lame Emirate is not something that can be swept under the carpet. For this reason, the history of Lame Emirate can never be separated from Bauchi Emirate. This is what is called heredity which originates from history. On a large perspective the history of Bauchi Emirate can never be separated from that of the Sokoto Caliphate simple because of the fact that Emir of Bauchi Malam Yakubu is the Chief Warrior of the Sokoto Caliphate, hence (Sokoto Caliphate) history will equally never be complete without Bauchi Emirate.
THE JUSTIFICATION OF ALHAJI BASHIR YAKUBU LAME AS SARKIN YAKIN BAUCHI AND KING MAKER BACUHI EMIRATE
The whole world knows how humbling Sarkin Yakin Bauchi dynasty has been for over two hundred years but simplicity does not mean guarantee neither does that mean cowardice. Based on this, and vis visa in injury on Alhaji Bashir Yakubu Lame, the current Sarkin Yakin Bauchi, and Kingmaker of Bauchi Emirate is an injury to the Maman Kusu’s dynasty we were left with no option than to reply. This is because an injury on Alhaji Bahir Yakubu Lame the current Sarkin Yakin Bauchi and King Maker is an attack on Alhaji Aliyu Yakubu Lame, the First Emir of Lame, and the son of Alhaji Yakubu Lame of blessed memory, the 14th Sarkin Yakin Bauchi who is one of the descendants of the great Mamman Kusu. It is also an attack on Mamman Kusu of blessed memory who is the Sarkin Yakin Daular Usmaniyya that went to Sokoto with the First Emir of Bauchi Malam Yakubun Bauchi to receive a flag for the creation of Bauchi Emirate in 1809. Looking at over 200 years Mamman Kusu served under Bauchi Emirate. The recent appointment of Alhaji Bashir Yakubu Lame as Sarkin Yakin Bauchi and Kingmaker Bauchi Emirate from the same dynasty as decendants of Mamman Kusu does not reflect anything, but to consider it as dividends of loyalty, hard work, dedication and sacrifice as well as the overall reward of excellence made by our fore-fathers to Bauchi Emirate. Just like Emir of Bauchi who is Chief of Warrior to the Caliphate. We fought for our position and deserve them humbly in all ramifications. This is our birth right not priviledge. The so-called Waziri should be reminded that if Bauchi Emirate is to be shared to those who inherits the Emirate, the dynasty of Mamman Kusu will automatically be given their own share, unlike those positions that are merely part of the Emirate which in real sense of the word, they are not to have a recognition. Those positions who do not have history at all like the so-called Wazirin Bauchi whose father’s life was with full of unfortunate behaviours. Therefore, we will not hesitate to have his biography publically published for the world to see despite the fact that Waziri does not have respect for them at all. Definitely, you will be fixed where you belong. Who is he to challenge a recognition of excellence that spanned for centuries from the inception of Bauchi Emirate to date- whose contributions given by the Mamman Kusu’s dynasty to Bauchi Emirate.
Apart from contributions made to Bauchi Emirate, one of the great descendant of the famous Mamman Kusu’s dynasty Alhaji Yakubu Lame of blessed memory is one of the makers of the then Northern Nigeria. He completed his primary education in 1937 from Lame Primary Schools, which was established in 1914 (when there were only 4 primary schools in the then Bauchi Province). To justify our assertion among others, Alhaji Yakubu Lame began his working carrier when he was first appointed as Assistant Accountant with Bauchi Native Authority in 1943. He was in the central office between 1947 – 1953, he was turbaned as Sarkin Dawakin Bauchi and appointed as Bauchi Town District Head and at the same time, Councillor for Police, Prison and Education from 1954 – 1956, he was promoted and appointed as Magajin Garin Bauchi (Administrative Secretary) and Councillor for Finance, Works and Education. He was also the Chairman of Bauchi Native Authority Committee on Finance, Appointment and Discipline.
On the political scene, he tested his popularity in October 1956 when he was elected into the Northern House of Assembly under Northern Peoples’ Congress (NPC). He was re-elected on to the same position on 04th May 1961 under the same party.
Upon serving his tenure, and because of his antecedence in both the N.A and the Northern House of Assembly, he was appointed as Provisional Commissioner, Niger Province by the late Sir Ahmadu Bello KBE (Sardaunan Sokoto) premier of Northern Regional Government in his resolve and wisdom to strengthen Provincial Administration as the bedrock of the overall Regional Administrative Structure.
Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Lame paid a visit to the United Kingdom on a Local Government Study Tower in 1959. He was a member of Polo Club, Provincial Loans Board, and Bauchi-Dass Local Government Committee on Education.
After the coup in 1966, and the creation of States in 1967, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Lame Sarkin Yakin Bauchi, was appointed as the Commissioner for Finance in the newly created North-Eastern States and performed with dignity. He was a very strong and pleasant character with a natural resolve to always get things done properly. He died on 6th June, 1994.
MOHAMMED KARI DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE THE WAZIRI OF BAUCHI
The Roles of Wazirin Bauchi
By and large, as it should have been, the title of Wazirin Bauchi under normal circumstance, performs the following roles:
Chief Administrative Officer: he manages the day-today administration of Emirate, supervises other Council officials and palace staff.
Prime Minister and Principal Adviser: Acts as the closest confident and think-thank of the Emir, offering counsel on political, social spiritual matters.
Conflicts Resolution: he acts as a mediator of disputes amongst citizens, traditional title holders, and District Heads before reaching the Emir.
Community Representation: he conveys the Emir’s directives to people and relays the community’s grievances or needs back to the traditional leadership.
Diplomatic and Inter-Governmental Ties: he represent the Emir at state functions and maintains strategic relationship with other traditional roles and government bodies.
Moreover, the position of Wazirin Bauchi, the Emirate that is higher in rank to that of Katsina, Kano, Zazzau, Daura and lots of other Emirates under the Shehu Usmanu Danfodio Caliphate needs to be held by a reasonable and responsible personality who excels and distinguishes himself in all ramifications, have the people and the Emirate at heart, who is always mindful of his words, who is always with ideas that unite people together not to destroy the peaceful co-existence. He needs to be someone who is objective not self-centred or subjective and biased, who is not over-ambitious and with full of individualism. But the reverse is the case, when it comes to the current Wazirin Bauchi for his write-up against Alhaji Bashir Yakubu Lame to be appointed as Sarkin Yakin Bauchi and Kingmaker, Bauchi Emirate Council, is full of contradictions and egocentrism which brings him shame to the faces of right thinking men and women. He does not deserve to be at all- a nuisance!
Please, we challenge him to write is odyssey!
Mohammed Kari would not have dreamt of becoming one, if not because of the support of His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya) the Executive Governor of Bauchi State who did it with a good mind, but with his antecedence since his appointment as Waziri to date, we wish to humbly forward our sincere call for his immediate removal in order to sanitize the damages, shame and disgrace he brought to the Bauchi Emirate and indeed, to the people of Bauchi State, Nigeria and beyond.
A stranger who does not know his origin from both sides is opportune to be part of Bauchi Emirate, had the gut to cause crises and chaos in the Bauchi Emirate as well as challenging the authority of a highly reputable dynasty without whom, the history of the Caliphate will never be complete.
The so-called Waziri of Bauchi is a benefactor of the reputable dynasty he challenges when rationality takes the inevitable contributions being given to Bauchi Emirate since its inception to date.
In conclusion, our heartfelt appreciation as a dynasty to His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed CON (Kauran Daular Usmaniyya) for being this fair and just to adequately reward nobility with nobility is exceptionally appreciated.
Thank you so much.
Babangida Suleiman Lame
(Danlawal of Lame)
Chief of Staff to His Royal Highness, The First Emir of Lame.
