BAUCHI FIRST LADY REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND WELLBEING
The First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya (Dr.) Aisha Bala Mohammed, has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that promote the health, dignity and wellbeing of women and children, particularly vulnerable members of society.
Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed stated this during the commissioning of the new National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and Bauchi State Contributory Health Management Agency (BASCHMA) facility at the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital.
She described the project as more than the construction of a new facility, noting that it represents a renewed commitment to saving lives, improving healthcare delivery and strengthening the wellbeing of the people of Bauchi State.
The First Lady commended the administration of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for prioritising the health sector, stressing that investment in healthcare is an investment in the people and the future of the state.
She noted that the new facility, which includes a labour room, intensive care unit, pharmacy, laboratories, female wards, medical records section and auxiliary service centres, would contribute significantly to improving the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.
Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed emphasised the importance of providing women with safe, dignified and quality maternal healthcare, while ensuring that children receive adequate care and protection.
She commended the management and staff of the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital, particularly the Chief Medical Director, Professor Abdulkadir Mairiga, for their dedication and commitment to the successful completion of the project.
The First Lady, however, stressed that the sustainability of the facility would depend on proper utilisation, regular maintenance and collective responsibility. She therefore called on healthcare professionals, government agencies, development partners and members of the public to protect the facility and ensure that patients are treated with professionalism, compassion and dignity.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Bauchi State Specialist Hospital, Professor Abdulkadir Mairiga, said the NHIA programme at the hospital had undergone significant transformation over the past two years.
He explained that the programme had facilitated the construction of the new facility, procurement of medical and laboratory equipment, as well as the engagement of additional doctors, nurses and midwives.
