AMAOKWE ITEM VIGILANTE GROUP DESERVES COMMENDATION FOR TAKING A STAND AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

The recent incident involving Kelechi James from Ekwo Amaokwe Item serves as another reminder of the dangers and consequences of drug abuse among our youths. Reports indicate that after allegedly abusing hard substances, he publicly embarrassed himself, bringing shame not only to himself but also to his family and the community.

The leadership of the Amaokwe Item Vigilante Group, under the able leadership of Supreme Commander Ebere Onuoha, deserves commendation for taking swift action and demonstrating that our community will not tolerate behaviors that promote drug abuse and social disorder. Their actions are part of the responsibilities vigilante groups have always carried out in protecting the moral values and security of our people.

I remember growing up as a young boy in Okoko. In those days, if anyone stole cassava or engaged in disgraceful conduct, the vigilante group would bring the offender before the village square and discipline them publicly. Such measures served as a deterrent and helped maintain law and order across our autonomous communities. Today, the leadership of the Amaokwe Item Vigilante Group has revived that spirit of community discipline, not out of hatred, but to teach lessons that will discourage others from following the same path.

Item Community stands firmly against drug abuse. The leadership of Item is equally committed to fighting the growing menace of substance abuse among our youths. Drug abuse destroys destinies, damages families, and has sent many promising young people to untimely graves.

ITEM OKPI MEDIA TV therefore encourages all youths to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances. Alcohol and drugs are not your friends. When abused, they can bring disgrace, destroy your reputation, affect your health, and even lead to mental instability. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so responsibly and never allow it to control your life or make you a burden to yourself and society.

We also encourage all vigilante groups across the nine villages of Item to emulate the commitment and courage demonstrated by the Amaokwe Item Vigilante leadership in promoting peace, discipline, and responsible behavior among our youths.

As a community, we do not support crime.

We do not support drug abuse.

We believe in raising responsible, hardworking, and productive young men and women.

We are Item.

We are a great people.

Our youths are known for excellence, hard work, and good character.

Happy Sunday, nde nwannem!

As we thank God for the gift of life and the blessing of seeing another beautiful Sunday, I want to encourage every son and daughter of Item Okpi never to lose hope because of the challenges of today. No matter what you are passing through, remember that every storm has an end. Difficult times do not last forever, but strong and determined people do.

Keep your faith in God alive. Continue to pray, continue to trust Him, and continue to work hard. God sees every effort, every sacrifice, and every sincere prayer. In His own perfect time, He will answer and reward your labor.

To our youths, I urge you to embrace hard work and dedication. There is dignity in honest labor. Hard work remains one of the greatest keys to success. When you work, you will eat. When you plan, you will harvest. When you remain focused and committed to your goals, your future will shine brighter.

Let us be good examples to our families, our community, and the younger generation. Let us promote peace, unity, respect, and development in Item Okpi. Together, through hard work, determination, and God's grace, we can build a stronger and greater community.
