Khana People Decry Exclusion of Bori Internal Roads and Zonal Hospital from Governor Fubara's Projects*

The people of Khana have expressed disappointment and frustration over the exclusion of Bori Internal Roads and the Zonal Hospital from the projects commissioned to mark Governor Siminalayi Fubara's one-year anniversary in office.

According to Engr. Legborsi Yamaabana, 2023 PDP House of Representatives aspirant for Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency and President-General of Ogoni Youth Federation, the Nyesom Wike-led previous administration allegedly misappropriated funds allocated for these vital projects, preventing their inclusion in the current administration's achievements.

Engr. Yamaabana appealed to Governor Fubara to take immediate action by revoking the contracts for the Bori internal roads from the current contractors and reassigning them to credible and competent contractors to ensure their swift and efficient completion.

Despite this oversight, the people of Khana commended Governor Fubara for his exceptional leadership and dedication to the development of Rivers State, delivering numerous projects and initiatives that have significantly improved the lives of citizens in just one year.

Engr. Yamaabana expressed confidence that under Governor Fubara's leadership, Khana will soon receive the attention and resources it rightfully deserves, despite the challenges and provocations faced by the administration.

Rivers explosion: Rivers HoR caucus condoles with families of victims, visits some hospitalized survivors

The Rivers State House of Representatives Caucus has condoled with affected families in the Rivers inferno and paid visit to some survivors over the weekend and undertook to support their hospital bills.

Recall that on Friday night there was a tanker explosion along Eleme Road a major commercial axis of Rivers State on Friday.

Moved by the unfortunate incident, the Rivers State Caucus of the House of Representatives, in a statement signed the caucus leader, Rt Hon Dum Deekor expressed grief while consoling families affected.

The caucus in the statement said: "The news of the inferno which engulfed the Eleme axis of Rivers State on Friday night, claiming many lives and destroying scores of movable and immovable assets on the East-West Road was a very sad development.

"As true representatives of our people, we express deepest condolences to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic inferno.

"Our heart aches for the lives lost and the profound grief that now engulfs our dear Rivers State.

"This tragic fire incident should rightly shake our people to their cores, considering the magnitude of losses; and we stand in solidarity with those who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every individual impacted by this tragedy.

"In times like these, it is crucial that we come together to support one another, offering comfort, strength, and compassion to those in need. I urge everyone to lend a helping hand to those affected and to provide whatever assistance they can during this difficult time.

" As the good people of Rivers State and Nigerians mourn the loss of precious lives, let us also reflect on the importance of safety measures and prevention strategies to avoid such tragedies in the future. We must work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our community.

"Once again, our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims. May they find comfort and solace in the midst of this massive challenge.

OGONI YOUTHS DEMAND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR TANKER EXPLOSION AT THE ELEME SECTION OF EAST WEST ROAD, THREATEN TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AND TO SHUTDOWN ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES IN THE AREA

The Joint Representatives Council (JRC) of Ogoni Youth Groups is deeply saddened by the Petroleum tanker explosion incident of Friday 26th April 2024, along the Eleme Section of the East West road, which led to the destruction of properties worth billions of Naira, and worse still, the loss of human lives the number of which is yet to be ascertained.

The avoidable nature of this horrific incident makes it the more unbearable. We find it unconscionable that despite the economic importance of the Eleme Section of the East West road to the nation, the Federal Government has continued to be slow in its approach and response to the numerous appeals and protests by the people for its speedy construction to not only ease traffic, but to save lives.

It is on record that within the past two decades, the number of lives lost on the Eleme Section of the East West road has exceeded 500 persons, more than any other Federal Government road in Nigeria, with the number of casualties increasing with each passing year due to a complete failure of leadership and an absence of governance at all levels.

The Rivers State Government itself is not left out. Its failure as made glaring by a near-absence of Emergency Response Services (ERS) at the scene to help reduce the impact of the explosion and the spread of the inferno, and to also save lives, stands condemned.

The JRC consequently holds the Federal Government responsible for the loss of lives and destruction of properties stemming from this unfortunate incident as a result of its general ineptitude. As such, the Nigerian Government must take responsibility and set in motion a system to collate data on all those affected by this incident so as to properly compensate them for their losses. We would like to also make it clear that failure of the government to announce its plans in this regard within the next seven (7) days will leave Ogoni youths with no other option than to institute a class action suit against the Nigerian Government and a shutdown of the Eleme Section of the East West Road and all economic activities along that stretch until the actions as demanded by the JRC are taken by the Federal Government.

The JRC commiserates with the bereaved families and those who lost valuables, and we pray for the repose of the lost souls.

Signed,
Nubari Saatah,

Earlier today Sen Magnus Abe paid a condolence visit to the Parents and other members of Herbert Wigwe family in Lagos State.

He said, we all feel the deep pain of this particular loss, how much more his parents and close relatives?

This is a reality still difficult to accept. Still broken, I join all well meaning Nigerians, friends across the world and Rivers people in particular, in prayers that the good Lord comfort our hearts, especially the parents and immediate family of our beloved brother and friend.

Herbert Wigwe was not just an extraordinary achiever & an outlier who was successful in business, but he was also patriotic and still a home boy.

His impart and giant strides in business and philanthropy, echoes globally and they stand firm in the human and infrastructural supports he rendered to people and the society, and across continents.

Farewell my dear brother, and may the Angels carry you and your loved ones to a better place.
