NYCN HONOURS KAGOTE PRESIDENT, LESI MAOL, WITH NOVELTY FOOTBALL MATCH

The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, has honoured the President of KAGOTE, Chief Lesi Maol, with a novelty football match held at the Mogho Central Football Field in Gokana Local Government Area.

Chairman of the Council, Comrade Bani Nwisabari Bani said the event was organized to celebrate Chief Maol's birthday, his emergence as KAGOTE President, and his outstanding philanthropic contributions to the development of Ogoniland.

Chairman of the occasion and Member representing Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Dum Dekor, performed the ceremonial kick-off and commended the celebrant for his commitment to community development. He also donated ₦5 million to support the organizers.

Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, described the celebrant as a father, brother, and friend, praising his humanitarian impact and pledging support for youth-focused programmes.

In his remarks, Chief Lesi Maol thanked the organizers for the honour, stating that the recognition would inspire him to do more for the people. He announced plans to organize an inter-secondary schools football competition with a star prize of ₦20 million and a community football championship across Ogoniland with a grand prize of ₦50 million. He also pledged to provide musical equipment for Ogoni gospel artiste, Tornubari Nsigbo.

BARASI-TABAA WOMEN PROTEST ALLEGED POLICE HARASSMENT, DEMAND JUSTICE.

Women from Barasi-Taabaa Community in Khana Local Government Area staged a peaceful protest at the Taabaa Police Station over alleged unlawful arrests, harassment, and intimidation by the Nigeria Police Force.

Addressing the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Chika Elo, the Women Leader of the community, Chief Joyce Neebari-Nule, called for an end to what she described as the incessant arrest and harassment of innocent residents. She questioned why an attempted murder case involving King Suanua Baridam in neighbouring Sogho Community should result in pressure on people of Taabaa who, according to her, have no connection to the incident.

Also speaking, the Deputy Women Leader, Ndor Cecilia, expressed concern over the fear and uncertainty allegedly created by the arrests, urging authorities to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens.

On his part, the Paramount Ruler of Bara-Loole Community, Chief Precious Gbogbara, called for dialogue and collaboration between security agencies and community leaders to ensure lasting peace.

Responding, CSP Chika Elo advised the protesters to seek redress through the courts if they believe their rights have been violated.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions condemning alleged unlawful arrests and calling on the Commissioner of Police to intervene.

GANI TOPBA IS ON THE RUN OVER HIS FALSE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST CHIEF LESI MAOL

Gani Topba is facing serious questions over his allegations against the President of KAGOTE, Chief Lesi Maol.

He claimed he wrote petitions to security agencie alleging; sabotage, illegal bunkering, and gun-running. These are very serious allegations that require full cooperation with investigators and solid evidence.

Sadly, Gani Uebari Topba abandoned his own petition he claimed he wrote to security agencies and ran to Rivers State high court file Suit No: 2009/FHR/2026 seeking court protection and trying to stop security agencies from investigating the same bogus and baseless claims he made. This raises a big question: why report a matter and still try to block investigation?
Why is Gani on the run and not cooperating with security agencies he earlier wrote Petition to? If the allegations are true, he should allow a full investigation and provide evidence instead of hiding from the security agencies.

He also accused Chief Lesi Maol of holding “Ogoni money,” but has not given clear proof, account details, or source of the money. Serious financial allegations need strong evidence and not false and unfounded public statements on social media.

Right now, many members of the public want clarity. The main issue is simple. Gani Topba should come out of hiding and allow proper investigation and also back his claims with evidence.

Until then, his allegations remain unproven, and the public is watching closely to know the truth.

DEPUTY SPEAKER MAOL STANDS WITH FAMILIES, SUPPORTS CHURCH PROJECTS

The Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol has once again demonstrated his commitment to standing with people in both moments of celebration and mourning.

On Sunday 31st May,2026, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol joined his longtime friend, Prince Abalubu, and family at the Methodist Church, Akporo Sogho in Khana Local Government Area, during a thanksgiving service following the successful burial of the family's patriarch, Late Sir Chief Abel Tor-Ue Abalubu.

At the service, the Deputy Speaker made donations towards preparations for the 2026 Annual Conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria and also supported ongoing church development projects, a gesture that was well received by members of the congregation.

The lawmaker later visited Bodo Community in Gokana Local Government Area to sympathize with Mrs. Elizabeth Lesi Maol, wife of his elder brother, Chief Lesi Maol, and the Emabel family following the burial of Late Mrs. Caroline Bianwin Emabel.

At both engagements, Rt. Hon. Maol humbly apologized for his absence at the burial ceremonies, explaining that official duties and prior commitments prevented him from attending.

PRESS STATEMENT

*OYF CONDEMNS KILLINGS IN BOUE AND YEGHE COMMUNITIES, PLEDGES DIALOGUE AND RECONCILIATION*

The Ogoni Youth Federation (OYF) Worldwide expresses grave concern over the recent violent incidents in Boue (Khana LGA) and Yeghe (Gokana LGA), which have tragically resulted in loss of lives, abductions, and injuries on both sides. The Federation unequivocally condemns all acts of violence, irrespective of the community affected.

Engr. Legborsi Yamaabana, who also serves as the Spokesman of the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum, extends his deepest condolences to the families and loved ones who have lost cherished relatives in this regrettable imbroglio. He emphasized that OYF shares in their grief and stands in solidarity with all affected communities during this difficult time.

He appeals to youths and residents to exercise utmost restraint, eschew retaliation, and reject any form of manipulation that foments destruction. Such violence is antithetical to the ethos and identity of the Ogoni people, whose heritage is rooted in unity, peace, and mutual respect.

The OYF calls upon the Rivers State Government, security agencies, local authorities, and community leaders to intervene decisively to safeguard lives, restore order, and address the underlying causes of this conflict.

Furthermore, Engr. Yamaabana has pledged that, upon his return to the State, he will personally visit both Boue and Yeghe communities to engage with youths, elders, and leaders. These engagements will prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and sustainable community-led solutions to restore peace and prevent recurrence of violence. He also urges security agencies to maintain a vigilant presence in both communities to ensure the protection of lives and property.

OYF reminds all residents that Boue and Yeghe are intrinsically linked by heritage and history. As Ogoni people, we are bound together as brothers and sisters; peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and mutual respect are not only desirable but imperative for the prosperity, security, and harmony of our communities.
