“My sole musical regret is performing against Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago during the 2023 general elections,” Prince MK Baagi revealed in an exclusive interview with Point Blank. During this candid conversation, the renowned Nupe musician reflected on one of the most pivotal moments of his career, describing it as his most significant musical misstep. According to Prince MK Baagi, his decision to sing in opposition to Governor Bago’s political aspirations during the 2023 general elections was not driven by personal animosity or malice but rather by the circumstances surrounding the intense political climate of the time. In hindsight, he acknowledges that this move remains one of his greatest mistakes as an artist, noting that he has since developed admiration and respect for Governor Bago’s leadership and developmental initiatives in Niger State. Prince MK Baagi further clarified that his involvement with the opposition candidate, Alhaji Issa Liman Kantigi, during the 2023 elections, stemmed from his personal affection and admiration for Kantigi. He emphasized that this involvement was not a politically motivated contract or a paid engagement. In his words, the hit campaign song “Sunyi Felin” was a project born out of his genuine creative passion, stressing that “no one sponsored or funded the song—it was simply out of love for Kantigi.”
