Federal High Court orders Sowore's remand in Kuje Correctional Centre

An order has been made for the remand of the presidential candidate of African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, in Kuje Correctional Centre, by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Mohammed Umar, in a short ruling, ordered Sowore to be kept in the correctional centre pending the hearing and determination of his motion for stay of the order for revocation of his bail and bench warrant.

The court also dismissed Sowore's earlier application seeking the judge's recusal from the case on grounds of alleged bias.

The judge then adjourned the matter until June 24 for the hearing of the application for stay, filed by the defendant's new lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN.

Justice Umar had, on June 16, revoked a bail granted to Sowore following his failure to appear in court for his trial.

Justice Mohammed Umar, in a ruling on an oral application made by the lawyer for the State Security Services (SSS), Akinkolu Kehinde, SAN, also issued a bench warrant for his arrest.

The SSS is prosecuting Sowore for allegedly making false claims against the person of President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in a post he made on his “X” and Facebook account.

What happens when you buy land today and one year later, you discover the same seller has sold that exact land to someone else?

Who really owns the land?

This situation is more common than people admit, and it has destr0yed friendships, families, and life savings.

Here is the position of the law

In law, once a land is validly sold to you, and all necessary documents are executed (like Deed of Assignment) and you take possession, the seller has nothing left to sell again.

So if he goes behind your back and sells that same land to another person, that second sale is legally questionable.

But here is where it gets serious
The law does not only protect who bought first. It strongly considers who has a better title.

This means:
👉 Did you perfect your documents?
👉 Did you register your title?
👉 Did you take possession of the land?
👉 Did the second buyer act in good faith without knowing about your purchase?

Because in some cases, if the second buyer is innocent and has properly registered their interest before you, the law may actually protect them. Yes even if you bought first.
Painful but true.

The principle is simple:
Equity helps the vigilant, not the indolent.

If you buy land and go to sleep without perfecting your title, you are leaving the door open for problems.

And that seller?
He may also be facing criminal liability for fraud, because selling the same land twice is not just wrong it is an offence.

So what should you always do after buying land?
✔️ Take immediate possession
✔️ Perfect and register your title
✔️ Conduct proper searches before buying
✔️ Don’t delay documentation for any reason

Land is too expensive to gamble with. One carelesss move can cost you everything.

Now tell me if this happened today, would your documents truly protect you?
