UNICROSS Holds 23rd Matriculation Ceremony for Calabar Campus as Ag. VC urges Students to shun Vices.

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) hosted it’s 23rd matriculation ceremony on December 12, 2024, at the Calabar campus.
The event began with a colorful procession led by faculty officers, showcasing various faculties in alphabetical order: Architecture, Biological Sciences, Communication and Media Studies, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, and Physical Sciences. Following them were the UNICROSS royalty, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives, members of the Senate, and the management team.
The ceremony officially started with an opening prayer by the Director of Academic Planning (DAP), followed by the national anthem, state anthem, school anthem, and the recitation of the university pledge. Dignitaries present were then formally acknowledged.
The university registrar addressed the audience briefly before inviting the Acting Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof David Abua Ogar, to deliver his opening remarks. Prof. David warmly welcomed management staff, matriculating students, Senate representatives, parents, guardians, and well-wishers. In his address, he urged the students to remain focused on their academic pursuits, stating:
“Social vices such as cultism, fighting, examination malpractice, robbery, and other mischievous acts have no place in this noble institution.”
The VC also emphasized the importance of good conduct and hard work, encouraging students to make the most of the high-quality teaching provided at UNICROSS. He highlighted the institution’s commitment to equipping students with versatile knowledge, enabling them to compete globally.
Prof. David expressed gratitude to the state administration, led by Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for his unwavering support in fostering a conducive learning environment.
