Ever wondered why your hair is a certain colour, why some people's hair is black while others, brown or even somewhat red Or even why your hair was black sometime ago and then suddenly, there was a colour change?
Here's why:
Things That Affect Your Hair Colour
1. AGING: Hair naturally turns gray or white with age as we all know.
2. GENETICS: Inheritance plays a role in determining hair color. Which means you could inherit hair colour from your parents, grandparents or even uncles and aunts.
3. EXPOSURE TO SUN: Ultraviolet rays from the sun can lighten or darken hair.
4. HORMONAL CHANGES: Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy, menopause, or thyroid disorders can affect hair color.
5. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Exposure to pollution, water, and other environmental elements can cause color changes.
6. DIET AND NUTRITION: deficiency or excessive intake of certain nutrients, like vitamin B12 or copper, can impact hair color.
7. STRESS: Prolonged stress can cause hair to turn gray or white.
8. CHEMICAL PROCESSING: Frequent dyeing, Frying or perming (and by perming I mean applying relaxer) can damage hair and alter its color.
9. MEDICAL CONDITIONS: Certain conditions, like vitiligo or alopecia, can cause hair color changes. As well as Jaundice.
10. MEDICATIONS: Some medications, like those used for depression or high blood pressure, can affect hair color.
11. SMOKING: Smoking has been linked to premature graying according to research.
12. HAIRSTYLING TOOLS: Frequent use of heat styling tools can damage hair and cause color changes. E.g blow-drying, stretching etc.
Note that these factors could cause various changes in hair color, including graying, darkening, lightening, or the appearance of red or yellow tones.
