HEARING ALL THAT IS HAPPENING IN OUR GREAT INSTITUTION UNICAL IS HEART BREAKING.

MANY CRYING OUT FOR HELP AS OTHERS CANNOT CONTINUE WITH THEIR STUDIES.

Unfortunately , the SUG with the Mandate to Protect and Defend Her fellow students CAN’T DO ANYTHING.

WHICH ISN’T THEIR FAULT.

The system is all about money now.

After spending money for consultation, campaign and other election materials, part of their goal is to also collect/regain the money they spent during the whole process when in office.

Then every student do pay their union due directly to the SUG Account and the Union had FULL CONTROL over the FUNDS, those are the days when we had Strong SUG and Active Unionism. Days when SUG will tell the School Mgt. that they are embracing on a protest and the Mgt. will beg and answer them speedily.

The School Management knew that the Union(s) didn’t have to depend on them for anything and was constantly going against them if any matter arises that the Students wasn’t ok with.

But the Game has Change.
Money is Power.
And that power the SUG don’t have cos they need to depend on the School Mgt. for Funds and others.

A Motion should be move by the SUG Senate that All Students Due should be paid Directly into SUG Account. With the Union have FULL ACCESS AND CONTROL over their Account.

THAT IS THE WAY FORWARD TO START. AND UNTIL THIS IS ACHIEVED, DON’T EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THE SUG WHEN IT COMES TO SCHOOL MGT AND IT POLICIES.

29/07/2021

The Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele surprised journalists at the monetary policy committee briefing on Tuesday when he announced a ban of Bureau De Change Operators in the country. Since the ban was announced, we have received several inquiries from our readers who as expected, what to know what the implication of this could be on the exchange rate.

Apparently, this is not the first time the central bank is banning Bureau De Change operators in Nigeria. In January 2016, the Godwin Emefiele led central bank also banned the BDCs for similar acts, providing us with a useful guide to what might happen.

Here is what happened as this Nairametrics article serves as a reminder.
On the 11th of January 2016, when the CBN banned BDCs, the exchange rate was N268/$1.
By 31st December 2016, the exchange rate had depreciated to N495/$1. See this Nairametrics article at the time for reference.
Devaluation was effectively 46% while the dollar had gained a whopping 85% against the naira.
Meaning if you held $100 in January 2016 when the CBN banned BDCs it was worth N26,800. But by December 31st 2016, that same dollar was worth N49,500.
What if the same was to reoccur?
On July 27th 2021, CBN banned BDCs when the exchange rate was N500/$1.
If it depreciates by 46% as it did in 2016 then we could be looking at a whopping exchange rate of N925/$1 by December 2021.
This will be unprecedented in the history of Nigeria and will surely increase the prices of goods and services across the country.
Interesting to note that the exchange rate has now depreciated by 16.3% from N360/$1 to N430/$1. Or the dollar has gained 19% against the naira.
Why did exchange rate fall so badly in 2016?
Firstly, after the ban of BDCs, dollar scarcity remained at the retail and wholesale end of the forex market.
This created both artificial and real scarcity for forex driving more people to the black market to get forex.
Those who were able to get forex from the official market simply just round tripped by going to the black market to sell their hoard.
This created a spiral effect that worsened the situation, depreciating the exchange rate to record proportions.
In fact, by early 2017 the exchange rate had hit N505/$1.
Fortunately, in 2017 the central bank introduced a costly policy of selling OMO bills to foreign and local institutional investors at very high interest rates, thus attracting dollars from overseas. These foreign portfolio investments helped crash the exchange rate positively from N505/$1 to about N363/$1. But we had gone from N165/$1 in 2014 to N363/$1 which is 54.5% devaluation.

Bottom Line
Banning the BDCs for nefarious activities might be a move in the right direction however, if history is to serve as a guide, the CBN will need to ensure there is availability of forex at all markets especially the I&E window.

The reason for the challenge we have in the country still remains the lack of dollar supply in the economy. Foreign investors no longer import dollars into the country and oil revenue is still as bad as it was towards the end of last year.

This is probably the best time for the central bank to float the naira or adopt a more market driven approach that allows traders determine the exchange rate at which they want to buy and sell dollars. The CBN can continue to play its interventionist role by stepping in with supply when the price moves away from its guidance. Anything short of this could well lead Nigerian into a repeat of 2016.

MONDAY DIET
SOME SOCIAL RULES THAT MAY HELP YOU:

1. Don’t call someone more than twice continuously. If they don’t pick up your call, presume they have something important to attend to;

2. Return money that you have borrowed even before the person that borrowed you remember or ask for it. It shows your integrity and character. Same goes with umbrellas, pens and lunch boxes.

3. Never order the expensive dish on the menu when someone is giving you a lunch/dinner.

4. Don’t ask awkward questions like ‘Oh so you aren’t married yet?’ Or ‘Don’t you have kids’ or ‘Why didn’t you buy a house?’ Or why don't you buy a car? For God’s sake it isn’t your problem;

5. Always open the door for the person coming behind you. It doesn’t matter if it is a guy or a girl, senior or junior. You don’t grow small by treating someone well in public;

6. If you take a taxi with a friend and he/she pays now, try paying next time;

7. Respect different shades of opinions. Remember what's 6 to you will appear 9 to someone facing you. Besides, second opinion is good for an alternative;

8. Never interrupt people talking. Allow them to pour it out. As they say, hear them all and filter them all;

9. If you tease someone, and they don’t seem to enjoy it, stop it and never do it again. It encourages one to do more and it shows how appreciative you're;

10. Say “thank you” when someone is helping you.

11. Praise publicly. Criticize privately;

12. There’s almost never a reason to comment on someone’s weight. Just say, “You look fantastic.” If they want to talk about losing weight, they will;

13. When someone shows you a photo on their phone, don’t swipe left or right. You never know what’s next;

14. If a colleague tells you they have a doctors' appointment, don’t ask what it’s for, just say "I hope you’re okay". Don’t put them in the uncomfortable position of having to tell you their personal illness. If they want you to know, they'll do so without your inquisitiveness;

15. Treat the cleaner with the same respect as the CEO. Nobody is impressed at how rude you can treat someone below you but people will notice if you treat them with respect;

16. If a person is speaking directly to you, staring at your phone is rude;

17. Never give advice until you’re asked;

18. When meeting someone after a long time, unless they want to talk about it, don’t ask them their age and salary;

19. Mind your business unless anything involves you directly - just stay out of it;

20. Remove your sunglasses if you are talking to anyone in the street. It is a sign of respect. Moreso, eye contact is as important as your speech; and

21. Never talk about your riches in the midst of the poor. Similarly, don't talk about your children in the midst of the barren.

22. After reading a good message try to say "Thanks for the message".

APPRECIATION remains the easiest way of getting what you don't have....

2018/2019 SUG ELECTION

The Rising Emperor and His political Cupidity!

The 2019 SUG elections is perhaps not springing forth the required surprises, the arena is already lucid. We can now decipher from the lines the cold sentiments that lay bare its beak for the last one year.

As a student of politics, you will agree with me that it is a fight between three major power blocks.

THE AFUFU LED RELIGIOUS LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT.

THE STAKEHOLDERS REVOLUTIONARY ARMY and

FACULTY SUPERIORITY CONGRESS.

in this lines, we have seen the past President of the Union whose political godfather value was skyrocketed with the installment of his choiced candidates as President, and Senate President, is again making a push to consolidate on his dynasty, by doing what can be termed a bloodless coup, pushing his luck too far by already annointing a Presidential Candidate, a Vice Presidential Candidate and already having his brother as Director of Sports. Afufu is no doubt a big fish, but if his plans will scale through, another Empire must fall.

The overt and covert moves of the past President, is not unconnected to the falling out of a political Godfather and his godson, the incumbent President, it is no doubt the political reputation of the incumbent suffered a severe blow, when allegations of misapproprations surfaced, which threatened the peace of the Union it is rumored, that the God father played a role in its advancement and orchestrated the same to prove a point. However it is not news that Enyam Kelvin will seek to chose his succesor. One can therefore not play down the power of incumbency.

Whereas the rumoured favourite of Enyam has bowed out of the race, it is now rocket science to imagine who the likely 'boy' will be. This will be a choice between the Raymond Moses Derek of CUMSA or the Mbang Confidence of the Faculty of Law, however new breeds have made their entry into the Presidential race, Oben Oben of the Faculty of Allied medical science, and Okoma Kingsley. though the duo do not seem to potend so much threats, in politics anything can happen.

As the battle rages, there is another populist block, those who are determined to retire the ex generals, for them the religious cloak will not be acceptable as it has misrepresented the candidates, they too will want to prove that power belongs to the people and not to the acclaimed Jagabans.

Lately, the ruse has been about which faculty will be chosen, with Faculty of Social Science laying claims to the number one seat for marginalisation, Faculty of Law is seeking compensation for losing twice due to internal rivalry, which it has cleared this time around.
CUMSA, another power block is staging a comeback after they suffered a blistering defeat in the last elections, and went further to suffer proscription, they are now like wounded lions, staging a fierce comeback.

As the political foreplay continues, who wins will be determined not so much by popularity, but by major alliance and counter alliance, while the Faculty of Law will be struggling to retain the secretary office, (in the candidacy of a witty Sumoko Wisdom, Akwilam will be riding for the upteenth time on sympathy and suposedly goodwill,) while they reach for the Presidency, CUMSA will be all out for the Presidency, and Social Sciences will be a force to reckon with.

Let us watch and Play!.

Happy Weekend!

President Buhari Angry And Devastated About His Son's Accident, Blames Security Aides
Doctors at Cedarcrest Hospitals, Abuja Thursday continued their efforts to stabilise Yusuf, the only son of President Muhammadu Buhari, who had a power-bike crash on Tuesday night in the Gwarimpa District of the federal capital city.
The crash, according to presidential spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu, left Yusuf with a severe injury to the head and multiple fractures, necessitating him to undergo a surgical procedure moments after he was admitted at the hospital on Tuesday night.
A reliable presidency source, however, told THISDAY Thursday that because of the severity of Yusuf’s condition, doctors had to induce him to slip into coma as part of the procedure to stabilise him.
He said plans had been concluded to fly the president’s son abroad for a more intensive care once the doctors stabilise him.
The three-storey building of the private hospital located at Apo Dutse District, Abuja, continued to attract huge vehicular and human traffic Thursday as hundreds of people thronged the Orthopaedic Ward of the hospital to sympathise with Yusuf.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, many of his colleagues from the National Assembly, ministers, governors and other prominent personalities have visited the hospital in the last 48 hours.
Apparently to control the huge traffic at the hospital, a large contingent of security operatives from the Brigade of Guards, the Department of Security Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force were seen at the premises keeping eyes on visitors entering and leaving the hospital.
A source told THISDAY that the president, who was at the hospital on Wednesday, was unhappy with his security officials for allowing his son to leave home at 8pm on Tuesday for the power-bike racing.
“The president was at the hospital on Wednesday night. He was very devastated when he saw his son, Yusuf, in a very critical situation. He was shaking his head, while looking at his son and thereafter angrily reprimanded his security officials for allowing Yusuf to leave home at that time of the day for power-bike racing,’’ the source who was at the hospital when the president visited told THISDAY in confidence.
He added: “From the way the president spoke, it appears the security aides are in trouble. He spoke angrily. The Minister of Interior, Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd); his FCT ministry counterpart, Alhaji Mohammed Bello; and the Senate President’s wife, Mrs. Toyin Saraki; stayed throughout the night of Tuesday till Wednesday at the hospital with Hajia Aisha Buhari.
“While the doctors were working to stabilise him, Dambazau kept appealing to the doctors to do everything possible to stabilise Yusuf, saying the president would find it very difficult to bear the pain if anything happens to his son.’’
The source said that the president had directed that Yusuf be treated at the CEDARCREST Hospitals for now.
“Yes, the president had directed that Yusuf be treated at this hospital for now. In any case he is still in coma with serious pain; so, he cannot survive long-flight for now. He still needs few days to come out of the coma before any consideration of flying him out of the country for more medical attention,’’ the source added.
THISDAY gathered that the young man arrived the hospital unconscious and that doctors fought hard to stabilise him.
Yusuf was reportedly racing with a friend when in an attempt to overtake a vehicle, he skidded off the road, sustaining injuries that made him unconscious.
His mother, Aisha, who was said to have been quickly alerted about the incident, directed his evacuation to Cedarcrest Hospitals, Abuja for prompt medical attention.
