A customer told me he wanted to patronize me because he heard about my quality.

I was on my own oh, checking out my WhatsApp messages when a message from an unknown number dropped.

"What's up?"

I opened it, cringing slightly at the person's lack of courtesy. No greetings, no direct intent or whatever.

Since I'm a business owner, I had made it a point of duty to reply my messages. Reluctantly, I replied: "I dey."

That's when, he said he needed a cake. We got into details and he started haggling the price I told him.

See ehn, I might not be a big Baker, but I don't joke with my costing at all.

I stood my ground. That's when he told me he wanted to patronize because he heard about my quality.

Anyway, he paid and I got to work.

This experience taught me two things.

Don't overlook any message. That might just be your customer.

Again, I was reassured of my standard. I don't joke with my quality at all.

When I'm advertising, it's not as if I'm trying to brag or anything. But I make sure to give my customers the best taste and service possible.

They're not just paying for a cake. They're getting an experience, a beautiful one they will never forget in a hurry.

Once I'm on the way to deliver a cake, I become a birthday celebrant automatically😂

I pass this way, "Happy Birthday"

I turn, "Bring the cake here nauu."

Another side, "Na my cake oh, bring am here"

Na wa oh😂😂😂

I just smile through it and go my way sha.

"Oh, you've gotten a cake order? Keep cake for me oh."

Those were the words of my friends, while their expectant eyes were fixated on me, like babies gazing longingly at a fine toy.

"Bro. Shey you will keep cake for us." My brothers asked me, their gazes, sharp and filled with expectation.

Ahh, being a Baker is a bit of a problem oh. Everybody go just dey tease you, asking for free cakes.

Omorr, that thing dey always pain me eh. So if I'm a fashion designer, you'd ask me to dash you material or sew for free for you?

I understand it might be a joke but some persons are too serious with it.

If I decide to gift you a cake, it'd be out of my freewill. It's not an obligation.

Still, I must give my siblings cake nau, even if it's the crumbs😩😂.

"Ahhh, your cake is too costly."

This is a very common to Bakers. How do you reply?

I had a similar experience some days back. I was irritated.

I mean, it's very normal for me to flare up and insult the intending customer. On the other hand, I could ignore the message completely.

I could have done either of those two but you know what?

I didn't.

See, dealing with customers is a skill you'd have to learn if you want to go far in business. Even the big brands you look up to, face disapprovals at some point.

What did I do then? My rational side took over and I calmly educated my client on the quality of my products.

In the end, He replied: "Is that so?"

I responded, "Yes."

He promised to patronize. Even if he doesn't, I created a good impression. He could refer me...

I know some customers are mad. But are you mad too?😂

Haba nauu, educate them!
If them no gree, buy cane flog them till they greee😂

Anyway, you should know when to be silent sha.

I am a Baker, yet there is something I detest doing. Very important something oh, yet I don't like to do it.

Market runs😩😩

You mean, I have to go to the market and start moving from shop to shop to get certain materials? No nauu😩😩😂

I might not get everything I need at one point.

Aside Baking, even going to the market to get food stuffs. I dey avoid am pass wetin, except there's no other option left.

I'd be worried about bargaining in the market. Surprisingly, I do bargain well oh. Them no dey cheat me.

Upon still yet😂, I don't like it.

Am I the only one on this table?😂😂😂

This is my first big order.

I was so excited when I got the order. I mean, I've been baking bento cakes and mini cakes. Getting an 8 layer two inches cake order was a big deal for me oh.

I made sure I paid attention to every detail.

When I asked the customer for the color of the cake. He asked me to do my thing.

I came up with this and I think it ateee.

Meanwhile, I'm praying that this is a stepping stone to even bigger deals. From my mouth to God's ears, Amen.

There is a set of customers, I love.

The Do-your-thing type of customers.

They won't stress you at all and they will appreciate your work ehhnn.

I thank God for the customers He gives me, I rarely encounter the tough and terrible ones.

I have seen one who showed me shege, refused to complete my money and I still blocked her for my sanity.

Since then, be you who, no upfront payment, you're wasting your time discussing any cake arrangement with me😂

While praying for customers, pray for stress-free ones oh. Even if there's little stress, make them pay well sha.

If I dare notice during our conversation that this one go deal with me, the way I will pick my slippers and run ehnn... You sef go fear😂😂

You might have noticed lately... I've not been the most active on this space.

I didn't just decide to disappear. I've been really busy these days. When I'm through with the activities of the day, I'm so stressed that I don't even have time to think of content ideas or putting out anything here.

Sometimes, I come here but my head is so blank. Omorrr, don't blame me.

I'm not someone who likes to share my private affairs on social media. You might have speculated this but you weren't certain– well, let me save you the stress.

I'm a Student Baker.

Is that what I have been hiding? Lol😂

I'm a medical student in the University of Calabar.

For those who are student entrepreneurs, you can tell how stressful it is. One moment, you're running around school under hot sun that could make you bald😂. You're either trying to attend lectures or pay some fees. The next moment, you're texting a customer or hurrying to the market to get ingredients for production.

Should we talk about the sleepless nights? Not to mention, that medical school is not a joke.

All these, coupled with my commitments at home, leaves me mentally and physically drained. Let me not forget: we're fast approaching exams.

It's been overwhelming.

In all, I thank God who is always by my side. God is too good jare.

I'm grateful for the supportive family I have. Kaii, my parents and siblings dey try for me oh.

I still dey bake oh, no carry my money go anywhere.

I had to do a personal delivery of this cake on Sunday. My heart almost cut😩😂

I had to take two means of transport. I would drop at one point, then take another cab to the location of delivery.

The first Keke I entered wanted to give me heart attack. It was a very bumpy ride with lots of turns and swerves.

At every point, the Keke galloped, my heart flew to my throat. E remain small for me to burst cry😩😂

Come and see the prayer warrior in me😂. I just dey beg God to let me deliver the cake in perfect condition. Customer no go understand if anything went wrong.

Well, God saw me through and the cake got to the owner in one piece.

While I was returning, I heaved a big sigh of relief, whispering short prayers of thanks to God. Omorrr😂😂😂
