🇳🇬 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup: Flamingos Bow Out After 4–0 Loss to Italy
Nigeria’s Flamingos have crashed out of the ongoing FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco after suffering a 4–0 defeat to Italy in the Round of 16.
The 2022 bronze medallists started brightly, with Captain Shakirat Moshood forcing a fine save from Italian goalkeeper Matilde Robbioni midway through the first half.
However, Anna Copelli broke the deadlock for Italy just before halftime. Nigeria thought they had equalized through Nguemo Terlumun, but the goal was overturned after a Video Support Review ruled a foul on the goalkeeper.
Italy then ran riot in the second half with goals from Caterina Venturelli, Giulia Robino, and Rachelle Giudici, sealing their fourth straight win of the tournament.
The defeat ends Nigeria’s campaign, but attention now turns to preparations for the qualifying series of next year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, which is now an annual competition.
