Gov. Buni's Investments into the Future of Yobe State

"A good education is a foundation for a better future" - Elizabeth Warren

Gov. Buni's Investments for a prosperous future for Yobe state can be traced and identified with his passion and commitment to the development of education in the state.

The rejuvenation of Basic Education, a sector that suffered gross destruction in the wake of the brutal insurgency in the state, was quickly identified, prioritised and sufficiently supported for a speedy recovery.

The wisdom in the early intervention was unprecedented with improvement in the performances of students in external examinations, qualifying them more for admission into tertiary institutions within and outside the country.

This is evidenced in the administration's strategic investment in the sponsorship of over 38,000 students to tertiary institutions in Nigeria and abroad through the state scholarship scheme for the future of the state.

With over 500 law students sponsored into universities, and sponsored again to the Law school, it is clear of the government's commitment to another futuristic investment.

The 230 Buni Scholars sponsored to study Medical and allied courses in India, some of whom have graduated and employed by the state government, are now providing services in health institutions in the state-- a worthy investment by the state government.

For the records, fifty-two of the Buni Scholars are trained pharmacists, a number that surpasses the total number of 46 indigenous pharmacists in the state before the arrival of the Buni Scholars. A wise and worthy investment in the life of the state.

What is more? The commitment of the Buni administration to uncover the age-long problem associated with kidney failure ravaging communities along the banks of River Yobe, to save the people from the deadly scourge remains a milestone achievement into the future of the communities by the Buni administration.

The establishment of Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), Nigeria’s only open-access biomedical research facility, equipped with advanced research infrastructure and partnering internationally recognized research institutions, is driving research programmes in Yobe state, Nigeria and other African countries.

Little wonder why this commitment has placed Yobe state on the international map of Science, Research and innovation with 50 scientists arriving in the state to participate in the largest sub regional (state) funded research programme ever seen in Africa.

It is in recognition of this huge investment to save humanity that the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA) did not only recognize the ambitious efforts of Governor Buni but appreciated him with an award, and admitted him into the Society with honorary membership.

Today, Gov. Buni remains the one, and only leader in Africa to receive this distinctive award and honour due to his unwavering commitment to research and innovation to save the people.

Another milestone investment in the state's future is the training of manpower to boost Healthcare delivery as seen in the state-owned Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, and the Medical Colleges in the Universities.

The Government under Governor Buni has always provided the environment and materials to meet the required qualifications for accreditation of critical courses of study.

This is evident in the recent accreditation approved to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital to train Community Medicine physicians.

Similarly, the construction of roads across the length and breadth of the state has opened up most communities including Malori, Karasuwa Galu, Tagali, Masaba and several others with very difficult terrain, now recording increased socio-economic activities.

From Ngalda to Yunusari, Nguru to Gulani, youths are given the opportunity to participate in politics, governance and economic growth preparing them for future leadership.

Today, more than ever, many youths in Yobe state occupy many positions as Chief Executives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies. The administration also maintains a record breaking number of youths appointed as Special Assistants and other political appointments. Indeed, Gov. Buni's slogan of "INA MATASA? WANNAN GOMNATIN TAKU CE" has been substantially fulfilled.

In Yobe state, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and more glaring everyday. The future looks promising and prosperous.

Governor Buni is Working, Yobe is Moving!
