This painting of a young woman breastfeeding an old man in a prison cell was sold for 30 million Euros in an auction?
The painting may look perverted, but the story behind it is from historical records.
A poor man was sentenced to "Dèath by starvation" for stealing a loaf of bread during the reign of Louis XIV in France.
The woman, his only daughter was the only visitor to his cell. She was allowed to visit him daily but she was searched thoroughly so that she wouldn't sneak any food in.
After 4 months, the man was as healthy as he came in, without any weight loss. This made the authorities perplexed, so they started an investigation.
They started spying on her in the cell to discover if she managed to sneak any food in but to their utter astonishment, they found her breastfeeding her father. The milk that was meant for her child.
The judges realizing the compassion and love the woman had for her father, decided to pardoned the father and set him free.
This piece of history brings into focus how deep is a woman's compassion in our lives many men most time overlook.
