๐ŸŒ LIST OF THE YEARS PEOPLE PREDICTED THE WORLD/END TIMES WOULD COME โ€” BUT IT DIDNโ€™T! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐ŸŒ

Throughout history, people and religious movements have announced different years when they believed the world, civilization, or the โ€œend timesโ€ would arrive.

Here are some of the most notable examples ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ”น 500 โ€” Predicted by some early Christian theologians
๐Ÿ”น 1260 โ€” Joachim of Fiore
๐Ÿ”น 1492 โ€” Some Russian Orthodox believers
๐Ÿ”น 1666 โ€” Associated with widespread apocalyptic fears
๐Ÿ”น 1843 โ€” William Miller
๐Ÿ”น 1844 โ€” William Millerโ€™s revised prediction
๐Ÿ”น 1910 โ€” Halleyโ€™s Comet doomsday fears
๐Ÿ”น 1914 โ€” Charles Taze Russell and Bible Students
๐Ÿ”น 1918 โ€” Bible Students
๐Ÿ”น 1920 โ€” Bible Students
๐Ÿ”น 1925 โ€” Margaret Rowen
๐Ÿ”น 1954 โ€” Dorothy Martinโ€™s UFO prophecy
๐Ÿ”น 1967 โ€” Various apocalyptic predictions
๐Ÿ”น 1975 โ€” Expectations associated with Jehovahโ€™s Witnesses
๐Ÿ”น 1981 โ€” Chuck Smith
๐Ÿ”น 1988 โ€” Edgar Whisenant
๐Ÿ”น 1992 โ€” Lee Jang-rim and the Dami Mission
๐Ÿ”น 1994 โ€” Harold Camping
๐Ÿ”น 1999 โ€” Numerous doomsday predictions
๐Ÿ”น 2000 โ€” Y2K and end-times fears
๐Ÿ”น 2011 โ€” Harold Camping
๐Ÿ”น 2012 โ€” Widely publicized Maya-calendar doomsday claims

And yetโ€ฆ all those years came and went, and the world continued. ๐ŸŒ

The list is actually much longer than this. These are simply some of the most notable examples from history.

๐Ÿค” So what do you think?

Were these predictions genuine beliefs, misunderstandings, misinterpretationsโ€”or simply wrong predictions?

๐Ÿ”ฅ THE BATTLE BETWEEN THREE JUJU MUSIC LEGENDS! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐ŸŽถ

King Sunny Adรฉ, Sir Shina Peters and Commander Ebenezer Obey โ€” three giants who shaped the history of Juju music in Nigeria. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐ŸŽถ

In the late 1980s, a major debate was taking over the Nigerian music scene:

WHO WAS THE REAL KING OF JUJU MUSIC? ๐Ÿ‘‘

King Sunny Adรฉ was already one of the biggest names in African music, but the emergence of the energetic Sir Shina Peters and his popular Afrojuju sound changed the conversation.

Shina Peters was young, successful and attracting a massive following. His growing popularity and awards made some fans begin calling him the new king of Juju music. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽถ

For many music observers, the situation brought back memories of the legendary competition between King Sunny Adรฉ and Commander Ebenezer Obey during the 1960s and 1970s.

Then, in 1989, King Sunny Adรฉ released an album titled Authority.

The title and its powerful message were widely interpreted as KSA's response to the growing debate about the Juju throne.

In the music video, King Sunny Adรฉ appeared seated majestically on a throne, dressed like royalty, while people prostrated before him and paid homage. ๐Ÿ‘‘

He also used a powerful Yoruba proverb comparing yam and pounded yam, suggesting that two things might be related but could never be considered exactly the same.

To many observers, the message was clear:

THE KING WAS STILL ON THE THRONE! ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ”ฅ

But would Sir Shina Peters fight back?

Many expected a musical battle between the old generation and the rising star. However, Shina Peters continued to acknowledge King Sunny Adรฉ and Commander Ebenezer Obey as pioneers who had laid the foundation for Juju music.

Although Shina famously proclaimed that โ€œit was the time of the youths,โ€ the great musical battle many expected never truly happened.

Instead, the three legends continued to make their own enormous contributions to Nigerian music history. ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐ŸŽถ

Today, decades later, the debate is still interesting:

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ˜ฑ 1999: THE YEAR MANY PEOPLE THOUGHT THE WORLD WOULD END โ€” PROPHETS, PREDICTIONS AND THE GREAT DOOMSDAY FEVER!

Imagine entering 1999 and somebody tells you:

โ€œBrother, sister, prepare yourselfโ€ฆ this may be your last year on earth!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ˜‚

For many people around the world, 1999 was not just another year.

It was the year of END-TIME FEAR.

Different prophets, religious leaders, psychics and apocalyptic movements had made different predictions about 1999.

And the funny thing?

They were not all predicting the same thing or even the same date.

But somehow, they all created one big question:

๐ŸŒ โ€œARE WE REALLY GOING TO SURVIVE 1999?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ”ฎ NOSTRADAMUS AND THE โ€œKING OF TERRORโ€

One of the biggest names connected with the 1999 panic was Nostradamus, the famous 16th-century French astrologer.

One of his famous quatrains mentioned:

โ€œ1999 and seven monthsโ€

and spoke of a โ€œKing of Terrorโ€ coming from the sky.

By the late 20th century, many people interpreted this mysterious verse as a prediction that something terribleโ€”or even the end of the worldโ€”would happen in July 1999.

As July 1999 approached, people started paying attention.

Some were asking:

โ€œIs this the month?โ€

โ€œIs something going to fall from the sky?โ€

โ€œIs the world really ending?โ€

Omo! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

July cameโ€ฆ

And July wentโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒ THE WORLD WAS STILL HERE!

No King of Terror.

No destruction of the earth.

No end of humanity.

Nothing! ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ”ฅ THEN CAME PHILIP BERG

Another prediction was associated with Philip Berg, leader of the Kabbalah Centre.

Berg was reported to have predicted that September 11, 1999, would bring a devastating โ€œball of fireโ€ that would destroy almost all human beings, vegetation and life.

So imagine people looking at the calendar:

July has passedโ€ฆ

Now September is comingโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ˜ณ

โ€œWait! Is September 11 the day?โ€

September 11 arrived.

Andโ€ฆ

NOTHING! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The world continued.

People still went to work.

Markets remained open.

People still ate their food.

And some people probably looked at the calendar and said:

โ€œAh! So we are still here?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ˜ข๏ธ THEN THERE WAS HON-MING CHEN

Another major apocalyptic figure was Hon-Ming Chen, leader of the Chen Tao movement, also known as โ€œGod's Salvationโ€ or โ€œThe True Way.โ€

His movement had already made an earlier prediction involving March 31, 1998, when Chen said God would come to Earth in a flying saucer.

That prediction passed.

But the apocalyptic expectations surrounding the movement continued into 1999, including predictions involving nuclear catastrophe and divine intervention.

Againโ€ฆ

People waited.

And the world continued.

๐ŸŒ THEN THERE WAS THE BIG 1999 FEAR

Other writers and prediction-makers also connected the year 1999 with catastrophic events.

Charles Berlitz, for example, predicted that something disastrous would happen in 1999, although he did not give one precise method for how the world would end. Possibilities mentioned included nuclear destruction, an asteroid impact, a shift of the Earth's poles or other massive changes.

So by the time 1999 arrived, the atmosphere was already full of predictions.

One person had one date.

Another person had another date.

Another person had another explanation.

And ordinary people were left wondering:

โ€œWhich one should we believe?โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ AND WHAT ABOUT NIGERIA?

Nigeria was not isolated from this atmosphere.

End-time preaching, Rapture expectations and apocalyptic rumours were part of the religious environment of the period, particularly within some Christian and Pentecostal circles.

So when people heard about predictions coming from America, Europe, Asia and other parts of the world, those stories could easily become part of conversations in Nigerian churches, homes, streets and communities.

Some people prayed more.

Some fasted.

Some became more serious about religion.

Some believed Jesus could return at any moment.

And some probably said:

โ€œAbeg, make I settle with everybody before the world ends!โ€ ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

1999 was also the year when people were preparing for another huge problem:

๐Ÿ’ป Y2K!

As the year 2000 approached, there were fears that computer systems might fail when the date changed from 1999 to 2000.

Banks.

Airports.

Electricity systems.

Businesses.

Government systems.

People feared that computers might suddenly stop working and cause chaos around the world.

So imagine combining:

๐Ÿ”ฎ Prophecies

โœ๏ธ Rapture fears

โ˜ข๏ธ Nuclear-war predictions

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire-from-the-sky predictions

๐Ÿ‘ฝ Strange religious predictions

๐Ÿ’ป Y2K computer fears

All in one period!

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Omo! 1999 NO BE SMALL YEAR!

๐ŸŒ™ THEN CAME THE END OF 1999

December 31, 1999.

The whole world was watching the clock.

People were celebrating.

People were praying.

People were watching television.

Some were waiting to see whether anything terrible would happen.

The clock moved closer and closer to midnightโ€ฆ

11:59โ€ฆ

11:59:30โ€ฆ

11:59:50โ€ฆ

11:59:59โ€ฆ

๐ŸŽ‰ HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

JANUARY 1, 2000!

ANDโ€ฆ

NOTHING! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

The world was still here.

The sun still came up.

People woke up.

Cars were still moving.

Markets were still open.

Churches were still standing.

Nigeria was still Nigeria. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

๐ŸŒ THE WORLD SURVIVED 1999!

Looking back today, the 1999 doomsday fever has become one of the most fascinating examples of how predictions, rumours, religious expectations and fear can spread across societies.

And the biggest lesson?

When somebody confidently tells you:

โ€œTHE WORLD WILL END ON THIS PARTICULAR DATE!โ€

Maybe don't sell your house immediately. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Maybe wait until the next morning first!

Because 1999 cameโ€ฆ

1999 wentโ€ฆ

2000 cameโ€ฆ

And now look at us:

WE ARE IN 2026! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒ

The world is still here.

Bills are still here.

NEPA stories are still here. ๐Ÿ˜‚

And Nigerians are still asking:

โ€œWho get money?โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ OUR ELDERS IN THE HOUSE, COME AND TELL US!

If you were alive in 1999, what did you hear?

Did anybody tell you the world was going to end?

Did you hear about the Rapture?

Did you hear that Jesus was coming?

Did anybody tell you to prepare?

Did you sell anything?

Did you spend the night praying?

Or were you simply eating your food and waiting to see what would happen? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Tell us what your eyes saw!

Because some of our elders here may have the ORIGINAL 1999 GIST! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒ

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒช๏ธ OYA: THE WOMAN WHO STOOD BETWEEN OGUN AND SANGO โ€” A LOVE STORY THAT ENDED IN ANGER, POWER AND TRAGEDY! โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‘

Imagine thisโ€ฆ

A woman so powerful that even the strongest men could not control her.

A woman who could command the wind, walk through storms, stand beside thunder and still remain herself.

Her name was OYA. ๐ŸŒช๏ธ

But before she became known as the beloved wife of SANGO, the powerful god of thunder and lightning, Oya was associated with another mighty Orishaโ€ฆ

OGUN. โš”๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

And that is where the trouble began.

๐ŸŒช๏ธ OYA AND OGUN

Ogun was the great warrior.

The god of iron.

The blacksmith.

The hunter.

The man who could clear an entire forest with his machete and create a path where nobody had ever walked before.

Ogun was strength.

Ogun was war.

Ogun was raw power.

And Oya was not an ordinary woman either.

She was the wind before the storm.

She was associated with storms, the Niger River, transformation and the mysterious boundary between the living and the ancestors.

So, according to some Yoruba traditions, Oya and Ogun were once together.

Two powerful forces.

Iron and wind.

War and storm.

But thenโ€ฆ

SANGO APPEARED. โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

โšก๏ธ THEN SANGO SAW OYAโ€ฆ

Sango was different from Ogun.

He was a powerful ruler, a warrior and a man associated with thunder, lightning and fire.

When Sango and Oya met, their relationship became something powerful.

The woman of the storm had found the man of thunder.

And according to some versions of the tradition, Oya eventually left Ogun and became Sangoโ€™s wife.

Imagine Ogun's anger. ๐Ÿ˜ก

This was not just another man.

It was Sango.

A powerful man whose name would later become one of the most famous names in Yoruba religious tradition.

And the story became even more complicated because Ogun and Sango were both powerful figures whose domains and personalities could easily clash.

Some modern retellings even describe a direct confrontation between Ogun and Sango over Oya, while other traditional accounts tell the relationship differently. Yoruba mythology was preserved through many oral traditions, so there is no single version accepted everywhere.

But one thing remains fascinating:

Oya was never portrayed as a powerless woman waiting for a man to decide her fate.

She was powerful herself.

๐Ÿ”ฅ OYA AND SANGO

With Sango, Oya became one of the most famous figures in his mythology.

She was not simply the woman standing behind the king.

She was his companion.

His beloved.

His storm.

When Sango's anger rose like fire, Oya was remembered as one of the women who could calm him.

And when Sango went to war, some traditions remember Oya as a warrior who could stand beside him.

Thunder and wind.

โšก๏ธ๐ŸŒช๏ธ

Can you imagine the force?

But even the most powerful love stories can end in tragedy.

๐Ÿ˜ก SANGO'S ANGER

Sango was powerful, but the stories also remember him as a man of enormous pride and temper.

His reign was filled with conflicts, political struggles and enemies.

Eventually, his power became part of his downfall.

One famous tradition says Sango used mystical power to call down thunder and lightning.

But the power he believed he controlled turned against him.

Lightning struck his own palace.

His family suffered terribly, and the tragedy left Sango devastated.

Another tradition tells the story differently, saying that after political and domestic troubles, Sango left Oyo and disappeared into the wilderness.

And then came the most famous part of the storyโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒณ โ€œOBA SO!โ€

The story says that Sango eventually hanged himself from an ayan tree at a place associated with Koso.

When the people heard that their king had died, his enemies mocked him:

โ€œOba so!โ€

โ€œThe king has hanged himself!โ€

But Sango's followers rejected the statement.

They declared:

โ€œOba Koso!โ€

โ€œThe king did not hang himself!โ€

According to the tradition, Sango had not truly died like an ordinary human being.

He had become an Orisha.

And from that point, his presence became connected with thunder and lightning.

๐ŸŒช๏ธ AND WHAT HAPPENED TO OYA?

This is where Oya's story becomes heartbreaking.

Oya had remained loyal to Sango.

When Sango disappeared, she was devastated.

Some traditions say that she followed him in death or disappeared from the human world, eventually becoming associated with the River Niger โ€” Odo Oya.

Another tradition remembers Oya as the strong wind that comes before a thunderstorm.

So even today, the imagery is powerful:

When thunder speaks, remember Sango.

When the powerful wind rises before the storm, remember Oya. โšก๏ธ๐ŸŒช๏ธ

โš”๏ธ AND OGUN?

And what about Ogun?

The story does not give us a simple ending where Ogun, Oya and Sango all die together in anger.

Ogun has his own powerful mythology and remains the Orisha of iron, warfare, hunting, labour and the clearing of paths.

Some traditions connect the tension between Ogun and Sango to the story of Oya, while other traditions emphasize their separate histories.

But perhaps that is what makes Yoruba mythology so fascinating.

These are not simple stories.

They are stories of love, jealousy, power, pride, betrayal, anger, death and transformation.

And Oya stands at the centre of one of the most dramatic stories of all.

๐ŸŒช๏ธ THE WOMAN WHO COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED

Oya was not remembered simply because she was beautiful.

She was remembered because she was powerful.

She could love.

She could fight.

She could leave.

She could transform.

She could disappear.

She could stand beside a king without becoming smaller.

That is why the story of Oya continues to fascinate people generations later.

Because at the end of the storyโ€ฆ

Ogun remained Ogun.

Sango became Sango.

And Oya became Oya.

Three powerful forces.

Three complicated destinies.

One unforgettable story.

โš”๏ธ OGUN โ€” IRON AND WAR

โšก๏ธ SANGO โ€” THUNDER AND LIGHTNING

๐ŸŒช๏ธ OYA โ€” WIND, STORM AND THE RIVER

Maybe that is why the old Yoruba stories still feel alive.

Because whenever the wind suddenly becomes fierceโ€ฆ

Whenever thunder shakes the skyโ€ฆ

Whenever lightning tears through the darknessโ€ฆ

People remember the ancient names.

OYA.

SANGO.

OGUN.

And the story continuesโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒช๏ธโšก๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

IRE OOO! ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

What do you think โ€” was Oya truly the reason Ogun and Sango could never remain completely at peace? ๐Ÿค”

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ”ฅ THE HISTORY OF RELIGION: FROM THE EARLIEST BELIEFS TO THE WORLDโ€™S NEWEST MAJOR RELIGIONS ๐Ÿ“œ๐Ÿ™

WHICH RELIGION CAME FIRST? ๐Ÿค”

Before Christianity.
Before Islam.
Before Buddhism.
Before Judaism as we know it today.
Before churches, mosques and modern templesโ€ฆ

Human beings were already asking the biggest questions:

Where did we come from?
Why are we here?
What happens after death?
Who created the universe? ๐ŸŒ

Religion did not begin with one person or one particular year. Some of humanityโ€™s oldest spiritual traditions developed thousands of years before written history.

So let's travel through history, from the ancient world to the modern age. โณ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŒฟ 1. INDIGENOUS & PREHISTORIC SPIRITUAL TRADITIONS

๐Ÿ“… Before 3000 BCE

Long before written scriptures, human communities practiced rituals connected to ancestors, nature, animals, burial and the spiritual world.

Archaeological evidence shows that humans were burying their dead with objects and performing ritual practices thousands of years ago.

These traditions eventually developed into countless indigenous religions around the world.

There was no single founder and no single holy book.

๐“‚€ 2. ANCIENT EGYPTIAN RELIGION

๐Ÿ“… c. 3000 BCE โ€“ 4th century CE

Ancient Egyptians worshipped many deities including:

โ˜€๏ธ Ra
โšก Amun
๐Ÿ‘‘ Isis
โšฐ๏ธ Osiris
๐Ÿฆ… Horus
๐Ÿบ Anubis

They believed strongly in the afterlife and developed elaborate burial traditions.

The pyramids, temples and tombs of Egypt were deeply connected to their religious worldview.

The tradition lasted for thousands of years before gradually disappearing after the spread of Christianity.

๐’€ญ 3. MESOPOTAMIAN RELIGIONS

๐Ÿ“… c. 3500 BCE onward

In ancient Mesopotamia, in modern-day Iraq and surrounding regions, civilizations such as the Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians and Assyrians worshipped many gods.

Among them were:

โšก Anu
๐ŸŒŠ Enki
โš”๏ธ Inanna/Ishtar
๐ŸŒฉ๏ธ Enlil
๐Ÿ‰ Marduk

Their temples, known as ziggurats, dominated many ancient cities.

These were among the earliest literate civilizations in human history.

๐Ÿ•‰๏ธ 4. HINDUISM

๐Ÿ“… Roots reaching back more than 3,000 years

๐Ÿ“ Indian subcontinent

Hinduism has no single founder.

It developed gradually from ancient Indian religious traditions, especially Vedic traditions.

Important scriptures include:

๐Ÿ“– Vedas
๐Ÿ“– Upanishads
๐Ÿ“– Bhagavad Gita
๐Ÿ“– Ramayana
๐Ÿ“– Mahabharata

Important ideas include dharma, karma, reincarnation and moksha.

Hinduism remains one of the world's largest religious traditions.

โœก๏ธ 5. JUDAISM

๐Ÿ“… Developed over the 2ndโ€“1st millennium BCE

๐Ÿ“ Ancient Israel and the Near East

Judaism also developed gradually rather than beginning on one exact date.

Jewish tradition traces its ancestry through figures such as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, while Moses is one of the central figures in the formation of Israelite religious tradition.

๐Ÿ“– Central scripture: Torah, within the Tanakh.

Major historical events included the Babylonian exile, the destruction and rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem, and later Roman rule.

Judaism became one of history's most influential monotheistic traditions.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 6. ZOROASTRIANISM

๐Ÿ“… Ancient Iran โ€” date uncertain, probably before the 1st millennium BCE

๐Ÿ“ Ancient Persia/Iran

๐Ÿ‘ค Associated founder: Zarathustra, also known as Zoroaster.

Zoroastrianism teaches devotion to Ahura Mazda and emphasizes the struggle between truth and falsehood, good and evil.

๐Ÿ“– Important scripture: Avesta

It became particularly influential in ancient Persian civilizations.

Although much smaller today, it remains one of the world's oldest surviving religious traditions.

๐Ÿชท 7. JAINISM

๐Ÿ“… Ancient India; organized tradition associated with the 1st millennium BCE

๐Ÿ“ India

Jainism is one of India's ancient religions.

The most famous historical teacher is Mahavira, traditionally regarded as the 24th Tirthankara.

Its teachings emphasize:

๐Ÿ™ Non-violence
๐Ÿง˜ Self-discipline
โค๏ธ Compassion
โ™ป๏ธ Rebirth
๐ŸŒฟ Respect for living beings

The principle of Ahimsa, meaning non-violence, became particularly important.

โ˜ธ๏ธ 8. BUDDHISM

๐Ÿ“… c. 5th century BCE

๐Ÿ“ Northern India

๐Ÿ‘ค Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha

According to Buddhist tradition, Siddhartha left his privileged life to search for an answer to human suffering.

After attaining enlightenment, he became known as the Buddha, meaning โ€œthe awakened one.โ€

His teachings included:

โ˜ธ๏ธ Four Noble Truths
โ˜ธ๏ธ Noble Eightfold Path
โ˜ธ๏ธ Compassion
โ˜ธ๏ธ Mindfulness
โ˜ธ๏ธ Liberation from suffering

Centuries later, Emperor Ashoka became a major patron and helped Buddhism spread beyond India.

โ˜ฏ๏ธ 9. TAOISM / DAOISM

๐Ÿ“… Ancient China โ€” developed around the 1st millennium BCE

๐Ÿ“ China

Taoism is traditionally associated with Laozi, although it developed through a much broader Chinese intellectual and religious tradition.

The Tao Te Ching is traditionally attributed to Laozi.

Taoist thought emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao, meaning โ€œthe Way,โ€ and ideas such as simplicity, balance and naturalness.

โ˜ฏ๏ธ 10. CONFUCIANISM

๐Ÿ“… 6thโ€“5th century BCE

๐Ÿ“ China

๐Ÿ‘ค Confucius, also known as Kong Fuzi

Confucius taught about:

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Family responsibility
๐Ÿค Good relationships
โš–๏ธ Moral conduct
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Good government
๐Ÿ“š Education

Confucianism became enormously influential in Chinese civilization and later in Korea, Japan and Vietnam.

โ›ฉ๏ธ 11. SHINTO

๐Ÿ“… Ancient Japanese tradition

๐Ÿ“ Japan

Shinto has no single founder.

It developed from ancient Japanese traditions involving kami, sacred beings or spiritual forces associated with nature, ancestors and places.

Shrines, purification rituals and festivals remain important parts of Shinto life.

โœ๏ธ 12. CHRISTIANITY

๐Ÿ“… 1st century CE

๐Ÿ“ Judea and Galilee

๐Ÿ‘ค Jesus of Nazareth

Christianity began as a movement among the followers of Jesus, a Jewish teacher and preacher.

His followers proclaimed that he was the Messiah and that he had risen from the dead after his crucifixion.

๐Ÿ“– Holy Bible

Major developments:

โœ๏ธ c. 1st century โ€” Ministry and death of Jesus
โœ๏ธ 1st century โ€” Christianity spreads through missionary activity
โœ๏ธ 313 CE โ€” Christianity receives legal recognition in the Roman Empire
โœ๏ธ 325 CE โ€” Council of Nicaea
โœ๏ธ 380 CE โ€” Christianity becomes the official religion of the Roman Empire

Christianity later developed into numerous traditions including Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Christianity.

โ˜ช๏ธ 13. ISLAM

๐Ÿ“… 7th century CE

๐Ÿ“ Arabia

๐Ÿ‘ค Prophet Muhammad

According to Islamic tradition, Muhammad received his first revelation around 610 CE.

The revelations continued for about 23 years and became the Qur'an.

Important dates:

โ˜ช๏ธ 610 CE โ€” First revelation
โ˜ช๏ธ 622 CE โ€” Hijrah from Mecca to Medina
โ˜ช๏ธ 630 CE โ€” Return to Mecca
โ˜ช๏ธ 632 CE โ€” Death of Muhammad

Islam spread rapidly across Arabia and subsequently into Africa, Asia and Europe.

Today, Islam is one of the world's largest religions.

โ˜ฌ 14. SIKHISM

๐Ÿ“… 15th century CE

๐Ÿ“ Punjab

๐Ÿ‘ค Guru Nanak (1469โ€“1539)

Guru Nanak taught belief in one God, equality, honest living, devotion and service to humanity.

Nine successive Gurus followed him.

Important dates:

โ˜ฌ 1469 โ€” Birth of Guru Nanak
โ˜ฌ 1604 โ€” Adi Granth compiled under Guru Arjan
โ˜ฌ 1699 โ€” Guru Gobind Singh establishes the Khalsa
โ˜ฌ 1708 โ€” Guru Granth Sahib becomes the eternal Guru

โœฆ 15. BAHรสผร FAITH

๐Ÿ“… 19th century CE

๐Ÿ“ Persia/Iran

The Bahรกสผรญ Faith emerged in the 19th century.

๐Ÿ‘ค Bahรกสผu'llรกh (1817โ€“1892)

Its teachings emphasize the unity of humanity, the unity of religions and the oneness of God.

The faith spread from Persia to communities around the world.

๐ŸŒณ 16. AFRICAN INDIGENOUS RELIGIONS

๐Ÿ“… Ancient โ€” origins before written history

Africa has never had one single traditional religion.

There are thousands of indigenous spiritual traditions, including Yoruba, Akan, Igbo, Dinka, Maasai and many others.

Many include beliefs concerning:

๐ŸŒ Supreme beings
๐Ÿ‘ป Ancestors
๐ŸŒฟ Sacred nature
๐Ÿช˜ Rituals
๐Ÿ”ฎ Divination
๐Ÿ™ Community and morality

For example, Yorรนbรก traditional religion includes concepts and traditions involving Olรณdรนmarรจ, ร’rรฌแนฃร , ancestors and Ifรก.

These traditions are much older than modern written records, so assigning one exact founding year would be misleading.

๐ŸŒŽ 17. INDIGENOUS RELIGIONS OF THE AMERICAS

Native peoples across North, Central and South America developed hundreds of distinct spiritual traditions.

There was no single โ€œNative American religion.โ€

Different nations had their own stories, sacred places, ceremonies, creator traditions and relationships with nature and ancestors.

Many of these traditions existed long before European colonization.

๐Ÿชƒ 18. ABORIGINAL AUSTRALIAN SPIRITUAL TRADITIONS

Australia is home to some of the world's oldest continuing cultural and spiritual traditions.

Different Aboriginal nations have their own traditions, stories and sacred laws.

The concept commonly called the Dreaming or Dreamtime refers to ancestral stories, relationships, laws and sacred connections to Country.

These traditions cannot accurately be reduced to one religion or one founder.

๐Ÿฆ 19. RASTAFARI

๐Ÿ“… 20th century

๐Ÿ“ Jamaica

Rastafari developed in Jamaica during the 1930s, influenced by Marcus Garvey's ideas and the coronation of Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I in 1930.

It became both a religious and cultural movement and later gained worldwide recognition through Jamaican music, especially reggae.

20. ๐Ÿฆš HARE KRISHNA / KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS

๐Ÿ“… Ancient Krishna tradition; modern movement founded in 1966

๐Ÿ“ India, later spread worldwide

๐Ÿ‘ค Krishna is a major divine figure in Hinduism and is especially central to Vaishnavism and Krishna-centered traditions.

๐Ÿ“– Krishna's teachings are famously presented in the Bhagavad Gita, where he teaches Arjuna about dharma, devotion, action and spiritual liberation.

The modern Hare Krishna movement, officially known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), was founded in 1966 by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Its followers are known for chanting the Hare Krishna mantra:

โ€œHare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare,
Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.โ€

๐Ÿ™ Hare Krishna is therefore best understood as a Krishna-centered movement within the wider Hindu tradition, rather than a completely separate ancient religion.

๐ŸŒ 21. MODERN RELIGIOUS MOVEMENTS

The story did not end with the ancient religions.

The 19th, 20th and 21st centuries have produced many newer religious movements and spiritual traditions.

Examples include:

โ€ข Bahรกสผรญ Faith
โ€ข Rastafari
โ€ข Tenrikyo
โ€ข Cao Dai
โ€ข Modern Pagan movements
โ€ข Various new religious movements

Some grew from older traditions, while others developed in response to modern social and spiritual changes.

๐Ÿคฏ AND HERE IS THE MOST INTERESTING PART!

Religion did NOT simply move in a straight line:

Ancient โ†’ Judaism โ†’ Christianity โ†’ Islam

โŒ That's too simplistic.

The real history is much more complicated.

Different civilizations developed religious traditions independently or influenced one another through:

๐ŸŒ Migration
๐Ÿ›ค๏ธ Trade
โš”๏ธ Conquest
๐Ÿ‘‘ Empires
๐Ÿ“š Scholarship
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Oral traditions
โค๏ธ Marriage and family
โ›ต Exploration
๐Ÿ™ Missionary activity

And many religions existed at the same time.

For example, when Christianity appeared in the 1st century CE, Judaism was already ancient, Hindu traditions had existed for centuries, Buddhism had already spread across Asia, and many indigenous religions were flourishing around the world.

๐ŸŒ SO WHICH RELIGION IS THE OLDEST?

There is no simple answer.

If we mean the oldest surviving major religious tradition with ancient textual roots, Hinduism is often described as one of the oldest.

But if we include prehistoric and indigenous spiritual traditions, humans practiced spiritual and ritual traditions thousands of years before Hinduism, Judaism or any other religion with a known historical name.

And if we ask which religion is the largest today, the answer is different again.

According to Pew Research Center's latest comprehensive global estimates, covering 2020, Christianity had about 2.3 billion adherents, Islam about 1.9 billion, Hinduism about 1.2 billion, and Buddhism about 324 million. People with no religious affiliation numbered about 1.9 billion.

๐Ÿ”ฅ THE BIG LESSON OF HISTORY:

Religions have risen, spread, changed, divided, merged with cultures and survived the fall of empires.

They have shaped:

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Civilizations
๐Ÿ‘‘ Kingdoms
๐Ÿ“œ Laws
๐ŸŽจ Art
๐ŸŽต Music
๐Ÿ“š Literature
๐Ÿซ Education
โš”๏ธ Wars
๐Ÿค Peace movements
๐ŸŒ Entire cultures

The history of religion is therefore not just the history of gods and worship. It is one of the biggest parts of human civilization. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ“œ

๐Ÿ‘‡ NOW TELL ME: WHICH RELIGION SHOULD WE INVESTIGATE NEXT โ€” FROM ITS VERY BEGINNING TO TODAY?
