THE UNRAVELED PATH

Chapter 1: Harvest of Trust

Cindy, a devoted Christian lady in her mid-30s, was known for her kindness and generosity in the Lagos community. She owned a small boutique selling African attire, which she’d built from scratch with her savings. Her faith was the foundation of everything she did, and she was active in her church’s outreach programs. She’d often say, “God’s blessings are meant to be shared.”

One day, while attending a business conference in Abuja, she met Daniel, a charismatic entrepreneur who claimed to have connections with major investors. He promised her a lucrative deal that would expand her business tenfold, allowing her to fund more community projects. Daniel was charming, well-dressed, and spoke with confidence. He showed her impressive business cards, fake documents, and even mentioned influential people she’d heard of. Cindy, eager to grow her business and help her community, was captivated.

He told her the investment required ₦5 million upfront, promising a ₦50 million return in months. Cindy hesitated briefly but felt God was opening a door. She remembered a sermon on “stepping out in faith,” and her heart resonated. She exchanged numbers with Daniel, and he sent her daily updates on “project progress.”

She’d research him online, finding a polished social media presence and fake news articles praising his business acumen. She ignored her gut’s slight doubts, focusing on the “opportunity of a lifetime.” Her friends at church were excited for her, and she felt a sense of validation.

Daniel even sent her a contract, which looked official, with clauses and terms. She didn’t consult a lawyer, trusting his “urgency” and “secrecy” claims. She’d justify it to herself: “This is God’s blessing, I’ll make it happen.”

As she wired the money, she felt a rush of excitement. She’d finally be able to:

- Expand her boutique to multiple locations
- Fund scholarships for underprivileged students
- Support her church’s community projects

She couldn’t wait to share the good news with her family and friends.
