NEARER MY GOD TO
THEE.
Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer
to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that
raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer,
my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!
Though like the wanderer, the
sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me, my rest
a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer,
my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!
There let me see the sight, an
open Heaven;
All that Thou sendest me, in
mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my
God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!
Then, with my waking thoughts
bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll
raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my
God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

MATRIMONIAL ROBBER?

Memorise : And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? - Proverbs 5:20

Read: Malachi 2:14-16

2:14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

2:15 And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

2:16 For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the Lord of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

MESSAGE :

There are some people who never knew what sickness, failure, poverty or stagnation was until they committed fornication or adultery. Fornication/adultery is a sin that attracts the automatic wrath of God because it involves your Body, Soul and Spirit. Those who secretly engage in the sin of adultery end up being reduced to a piece of bread. Some think that as long as their sins are not found out, they are safe. Ask King David, he will tell you that your sins will always find you out.

Fornication and adultery will reduce you to a state of nothingness. Every precious thing in you will shut down permanently, the grace of God upon your life will be automatically removed and you will immediately become exposed to all forms of satanic attack. The cover of the Almighty God is removed and shame and reproach will become a daily occurrence to such a person. It doesn’t matter how long you may have spent in building your life, it begins to crush the moment you invite destruction.

A righteous person will be wise enough to avoid the dangers that come with the act of immorality. Joseph understood this and preferred that his garment be torn in the hands of Mrs Potiphar than that his destiny and colourful future be destroyed by a few minutes of pleasure. All those who give excuses about the negative sides of their spouses as an excuse for sleeping around are only being foolish. There is nothing outside that is not already given to you by God through your wife or husband. Don’t allow your life to end in shame and disgrace, because that is always the end of those who continue in extra-marital affairs. Stay with the spouse that God has given you and receive your emotional nourishment from that spouse. If you can’t find contentment in your marriage, then you can be sure you will never really find it anywhere else.

The plan and purpose of God for marriage is – one man to one woman. There is no perfect man or woman anywhere, you have to work with what/who you have, make lemonade out of your lemons.

You must stay far away from those people who can cause you to sin. This was the case with Samson in the book of Judges. Everywhere Samson went; his focus was always on woman, and he lost his life and all he had through a woman. You have to examine yourself to find out if there is any possible channel through which you can become a victim of fornication or adultery. Disconnect yourself from that man or that woman that wants to disconnect you from the place of grace.

God is not just holy; He wants us to be partakers of His holiness. It is the holiness of God that secures the grace of God in our lives.

ACTION POINT :
A righteous man is identified by how much he loves righteousness and hates sin.

CHRISTIAN COURTSHIP

Memorise:
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Hebrews 13:4
Read: Ephesians 4:14-15

4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
It is one thing to choose the right partner in marriage; it is another thing to choose the right approach to courtship. A wrong approach to courtship, particularly Christian courtship, can have a negative impact on the right choice. Therefore, believers that are in courtship must be Christian through and through if they would eat the good of the land of marriage (Isaiah 1:19). An important lesson for ladies to learn is that, a man is at his best in courtship. He would call you by different pet names. He would tease you and make you feel secure. These are the normal sweet words you should hear in courtship. However, when the wedding ceremony is over, his hidden shortcomings will be exposed because he can no longer hide them. The saying that “love is blind” is true but marriage is the tool to open the eyes of the blind lover. You will discover the real personality of a man or woman after the wedding ceremony.

For courtship to be Christian in nature, the admonition in today’s Bible reading must be our watchword. Courtship between two children of God must not be handled childishly. It should be handled with maturity as expected of a serious relationship. There are many false doctrines flying around and children of God must beware of them. For example, some people believe that once you are in courtship, you can begin to co-habit, doing all sorts of ungodly things together. They call it “trial marriage”. This has no place in Christianity. It is whore-mongering. More often than not, after these so-called brothers have had their fill of the so-called sisters, they dump the sisters for those they regard as “reserved and self-disciplined”. In the same vein, there are terrible wolves in sheep’s clothing among some so-called sisters too. They try to make unsuspecting naïve brothers get them pregnant and the result is what we call shot-gun marriage. This is a marriage not properly prepared for. Christian courtship must be characterised with sincere gestures. It involves sharing past and present experiences with your would-be wife or husband. It should look beyond the present to future aspirations. You should lay your future bare in the hands of Jesus Christ. Though there may be sincere disagreements during courtship, these are not strong enough reasons to break the courtship. However, if a courtship is full of troubles that you are almost getting suffocated with sinful or legalistic demands of your partner, you need to have a rethink of the relationship. This situation calls for fresh prayer. You may have made a mistake in the first place.

Prayer Point:
Father, please guide our youths during Christian courtship; let such relationships culminate in holy wedlock and a glorious marriage.

4 Facts About Spiritual Warfare

Scripture: “We are human, but we do not wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5

Have you ever felt defeated and weak in your faith? The Bible teaches that we are in a spiritual war. There are 4 vital things to know in order to win the spiritual war.

1. The Battlefield is the Mind

Our faith is based on God’s truth and promises. Doubt, guilt, and false teaching can weaken our faith. If we think the same way unbelievers do, it will keep us from knowing God. “....We must be transformed by the renewing of our minds” (Romans 12:2) In order to live a godly life, you must first have a personal relationship with Jesus.

2. The Enemy is Satan

“For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world,...” (Ephesians 6:12). People are not our enemies. Our enemies are the spiritual forces of Satan. Satan is real, and the Bible calls him “the ruler of this world of sin” (1 John 5:19), the “Father of Lies”, a murderer (John 8:44), and “the Accuser” (Revelation 12:9-10).

Satan’s goal is to keep people from God. He attacks our thoughts with lies, temptation and guilt so we will doubt our salvation in Jesus. He can’t take away our salvation, but he can steal our joy and destroy our desire to tell others about Jesus. Because Jesus wants us to be united in love, Satan tries to divide us and set us against each other.

3. Jesus has Won the Victory

We are conquerors because Jesus defeated sin and death on the cross (Romans 8:31-39). Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit, a Helper who leads us in truth. (John 16:13). The Holy Spirit lives in us and gives us the power to have victory. “You had power over them because the One Who lives in you is stronger than the one who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4).

4. We have Godly Weapons (Ephesians 6:10-18)

God gives us spiritual weapons to use against our enemy and we will discuss them in detail next week.

Will you pray this week:

To accept Jesus’ victory over sin and death
