FUPRE MASTER’S STUDENT EMMANUEL OLOWE WINS US$2,000 SPE EGBERT IMOMOH SCHOLARSHIP
The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), has recorded another significant international milestone with the emergence of its Master’s student, Emmanuel Olowe, as a recipient of the prestigious 2026 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) International Egbert Imomoh Scholarship, valued at US$2,000.
The scholarship is a distinguished recognition of Olowe’s academic excellence, leadership, professional development and potential to contribute meaningfully to the future of the petroleum and energy industry.
A Master’s student in Reservoir Engineering, Olowe’s research focuses on CO₂–brine relative permeability for Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) applications, an area of growing importance in the global transition towards a lower-carbon energy future.
Reacting to the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor of FUPRE, Prof. Ezekiel O. Agbalagba, FNIP, described Olowe’s recognition as “a significant affirmation of the quality, depth and global competitiveness of talent being nurtured at FUPRE.” He noted that Olowe had demonstrated “the intellectual capacity, resilience and innovative spirit that FUPRE seeks to instil in its students.”
The Vice-Chancellor congratulated Olowe and the Department of Petroleum Engineering, urging him to sustain his pursuit of excellence and continue to project FUPRE positively on the global stage.
Commenting on the recognition, the Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Engr. Dr. Wilfred Okologume, described the achievement as a source of immense pride to the Department. He noted that the scholarship was not only a testament to Olowe’s individual excellence but also reflected the quality of training, mentorship and research culture fostered within the Department. He expressed confidence that the recognition would inspire more students to pursue excellence and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of the global energy industry.
Expressing gratitude, Olowe gave all glory to God Almighty, acknowledging that the achievement was made possible by God’s grace, alongside the support, mentorship and opportunities he received throughout his academic journey. He appreciated the lecturers and professors of the Department of Petroleum Engineering for their guidance and mentorship, as well as the School of Postgraduate Studies for its support.
Describing the scholarship as a collective FUPRE achievement, Olowe pledged to continue to uphold the University’s reputation and fly its flag high on the global stage.
The recognition further strengthens Olowe’s growing profile of academic excellence, professional distinction, leadership and research achievement, while underscoring his emergence as a promising talent capable of competing and making an impact on the global stage.
