If you are familiar with anything concerning NYSC, you must have seen the photo of the high-ranking military officer in his ceremonial uniform, looking sharp and professional.
Recently, a lot of people—especially the incoming Batch A 2026—have been asking who the man leading the scheme is. Since I was also curious, I did some digging, and here are the answers!
We bring to you the identity of the Director-General of the NYSC.
His name is Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu.
He officially took over as the 23rd Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps on March 6, 2025. Before stepping into this role, he served in several high-profile positions, most notably as the Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
General Nafiu is a proud son of Ile-Ogbo in Osun State. He is a member of the 47 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy and is an Artillery officer by specialty. He is highly educated, holding a Master’s degree from Ahmadu Bello University and another in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
Since his appointment, he has been a strong advocate for the SAED program, constantly encouraging corps members to learn skills so they don't rely solely on their monthly 'allawee.' He is often praised for his 'fatherly' yet disciplined approach to corps welfare.
Beyond his decorated military career and public service, General Nafiu maintains a grounded private life. He is happily married and is blessed with children. He often emphasizes the importance of family values when addressing corps members during his nationwide camp tours."
I can now rest! Glad to share with you the little we know about him
