Today, I visited Ilemona, where I was accompanied by the Chairman Ilemona Descendant Progressive Union (IDPU) Hon. Richard Agbola.

I was impressed by the community's significant development under the leadership of the Kabiesi, Elemona of Ilemona, OBA Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf.

My visit coincided with the 10th Kara Market, and I spent several hours touring the market and discussing plans with the community development chairman.

Our office has been exploring ways to modernize select markets in the senatorial district, including the Kara market in Ilemona.

I also visited the Ilemona Sports Arena, marveling at the Kabiesi's vision for youth and sports development. We plan to complement these developmental initiatives.

Tribute to Professor Rasheed Jimoh Ijàodọla SAN: A Luminary, A Legend, A Loss

The news of the passing of Professor Rasheed Jimoh Ijaodọla this morning came as a rude shock. I had to gather myself to bid farewell to a titan, a trailblazer, and a champion of justice. His passing leaves an unfillable void in our lives, but his legacy will continue to illuminate our path.

As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he was a shining star in the legal firmament, guiding countless individuals, including myself, through the complexities of the law. His expertise, strategic brilliance, and unwavering commitment to justice inspired awe and gratitude in all who had the privilege of working with him.

But his impact extended far beyond the courtroom. As a human rights activist, he was a beacon of hope for the marginalized, the oppressed, and the voiceless. His tireless advocacy, his fearless confrontation of injustice, and his unshakeable optimism inspired a generation of activists, lawyers, and leaders.

As a politician, he navigated the treacherous waters of Nigerian politics with integrity, wisdom, and compassion. His commitment to the well-being of our people, our state, and our nation was unwavering, and his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.

His passing is a devastating loss, not just to his family, friends, and colleagues, but to the entire nation. We mourn the loss of a luminary, a legend, and a leader who embodied the values of justice, equality, and compassion.

And yet, even in death, his legacy lives on. The Ijaodọla spirit continues to inspire us, to motivate us, and to challenge us to be better versions of ourselves. His memory will continue to guide us, to comfort us, and to remind us of the power of courage, conviction, and compassion.

Rest in peace, Professor Rasheed Jimoh Ijàodọla SAN . His life was a testament to the transformative power of justice, equality, and compassion. His legacy will continue to inspire, to motivate, and to challenge us to build a better Nigeria, a better Africa, and a better world.

Shortage of Power: Senator Ashiru Calls for Renewable Energy, Pledges Legislative Support for Offa Engineers, Stakeholders

Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, Deputy Senate Leader and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Power, has called for urgent power sector reforms, renewable energy integration, and modern infrastructure upgrades to tackle the persistent electricity crisis in Offa, Kwara South Senatorial District, Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 4th Offa Engineers Webinar Series held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, Senator Ashiru underscored the devastating impact of poor power supply on businesses, industries, and daily life in Offa.

The webinar, themed “Unlocking the Solutions for Optimal Power Supply in Offa LGA,” brought together policymakers, energy experts, and key stakeholders to map out a sustainable way forward.

The virtual event brought together industry experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders to discuss the persistent electricity challenges in Offa Local Government Area (LGA) and explore sustainable solutions.

Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru delivered a keynote address emphasizing the urgent need for modern power infrastructure, renewable energy adoption, and policy reforms.

He acknowledged that Offa LGA, like many parts of Nigeria, has struggled with inadequate power supply, which has hindered industrial and business growth in the area.

The Senator outlined key areas that must be addressed to ensure stable and reliable electricity supply in Offa LGA, such as infrastructure development, policy and regulatory reforms, community engagement, energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy integration, infrastructure development, among others.

Senator Lola Ashiru stressed the need to upgrade transmission and distribution networks to reduce losses and increase capacity.

He noted that Offa still relies on the obsolete power infrastructure installed in 1964, making modernization urgent.

On renewable energy integration, he emphasised the importance of solar, wind, and hydropower and called for the diversification of Nigeria’s energy sources.

In furtherance, he advocated for the adoption of smart grids and energy-efficient appliances to minimize wastage.

Ashiru encouraged active community participation in power supply management to ensure local solutions fit local needs.

Senator Ashiru reassured participants of his ongoing efforts at the National Assembly to address the power crisis through policy frameworks, regulatory oversight, and direct community interventions in Kwara South Senatorial District.

He expressed readiness to collaborate with Offa Engineers and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation of recommendations from the webinar.

The Chairman of the Occasion, Alhaji Muideen Olaniyi Azeez Salako, President of Offa Descendants Union (ODU) Global, reinforced the community’s role in ensuring power stability.

Additionally, the Ibolo Consumers Advocacy of Nigeria participated as a key stakeholder in discussions about consumer rights and advocacy in the power sector.

The webinar was moderated by Mr. Muideen Adebayo Ibrahim (MAI), Chief Executive Officer of BAMIB Resources and Investments Company, while the Chief Host, Engr. Maruf Olalekan Ajenifuja, FNIAE, welcomed participants on behalf of Offa Engineers, the event's convener
