Submission? That word alone makes some women bristle. Me? With a BSc, MSc, PhD, post-doc under my belt? Submit to who exactly? Me? A whole chairman board of puffed-up pride and pomposity enterprises? With a bank account that needs a paragraph to describe? Submit to what? The list of rebuttals goes on and on.

But let's be clear: Godly submission isn't about being beneath someone; it's a place of protection. Women are inherently wired to give honor, to love, just as the church, Christ's own bride, does. And Godly men? They are hardwired to provide, to shield, to protect.

Men, the buck stops with you. You are the prototype of Christ in your household, and your command isn't just to love a little – it's to love as Christ loved the church, washing her with the water of the Word. You are called to be the priest and prophet of your home, the spiritual director of the precious church entrusted to you. Your role is to bathe your household in the truth of God's Word and in prayer, to model godly passion, godly sacrifice, and true Godliness within your four walls. None of these are reflected in tyranny or brute strength.

Men, your battle is to conquer your own flesh so that the Spirit of God can express Himself through you. You are called to conquer your world and step into God's mandate and ordination for your life and family. You can only truly be that Ephesians 5 husband with the powerful help of God.

And women, our calling is to submit to our own husbands as unto Christ. A wife is called to submit to her own husband, not everyone carrying a Y chromosome. Men, If you're not her husband in any sense, a professional or academic superior. stop demanding respect from every woman you encounter. Marrital respect and submission is in a class all by itself.

Women, that place of godly marital submission is the safest place you can be, the very place God has called you to. Submission means you partner with your husband to raise godly offspring who will be used by God as sharp arrows in His quiver. It also means you honor the gifts and the grace of God that reside in your husband. Submission is about honoring the very office of husbandhood in your man while you fervently pray him into the fullness and sacred intensity of that role. It means you prayerfully and passionately fan the flames of God's grace and gifts in your own life to their absolute fullest as you grow into the powerful helpmeet you are designed to be. Submission also means allowing yourself to be taken care of sometimes, even when you're perfectly capable on your own. Let go of the "I've got it" every now and then.

My heart goes out to the wives who have submitted as Christ's bride and the husbands who have loved as Christ, but have been left with the shorter end of the stick. May you find profound comfort, unwavering strength, fierce courage, and the deep wisdom of the Spirit.
