Let's be careful of what we wish for, and pray that it materializes. I once saw a documentary on South Sudan, No Simple Way Home, by Akuol de Mabior , the daughter of one of the five vice presidents of South Sudan( funny, right?) where the agitators of freedom, fairness and justice eventually became oppressors to the people they seemingly fought for.

The leader of the freedom fight (John Garang de Mabior) did not live long to enjoy the fruit of his labour, after which his 'trusted' comrades, in the quest for power, threw the infant country into chaos, and eventually a civil war followed. The greed in man raised its ugly head and one was left to question if they were better of has part of the parent country (Sudan) or not.

They thought that they wanted to 'go home', but the journey home was not that simple, as many south sudanese never got home, one could even say that South Sudan itself is not home yet.

Yes, they got their freedom from Sudan, yes, they have their leaders, yes, they now control their resources, but at what price?

On this journey to freedom, let's be sure that everyone is of the same mind, irrespective of who the principal is, let's be sure that we would not loose sight of the vision, irrespective of whatever happens to the principal.

What the agitators turned oppressors in South Sudan did not realize is that the movement is about the country, not the frontliners in the fight for freedom. I pray we don't make that mistake as well.

As we go out tomorrow to look for a simple way home, let's indeed vote the simple way home because we have stayed in the midst of thorns for too long. It's about Nigeria, and Nigeria only, don't forget that.

Many people tie giving to financials only but fail to understand that you can give your time, words of encouragement, words of affirmation, compliments, smile, nod, hug, a pat on the back, a thumbs up, recommendations, insights, your experience on how not to do things, and lots more. Don't believe the lie that the only thing worth giving is money.

That lovely smile from you can make someone's day, that nod to a colleague that is about to give a presentation can drive out anxiety, that pat on the back can make your employees/ subordinates put in extra work at no cost to you.

That discreet thumbs up to your child, who is about to go on stage for a presentation can send his/her confidence up the roof! Sharing your experience can help anyone going through the challenges you went through, see a silver lining in the dark cloud.

That hug can bring calmness to a burdened soul, cheering your loved ones who put effort into actualizing their dreams can make you a huge part of their success story.

Listening to, and counseling burdened souls can provide a safe place to be themselves,and help give clarity.

In a nutshell, learn to give what is needed per time, as no one is too young or broke to give.
