Wrong Strategy vs Right Strategy

Wrong Strategy: I just post and see what happens.
Right Strategy: Every piece of content I create has a purpose — build trust, drive engagement, or convert. That’s what a real social media content strategy looks like.

Wrong Strategy: I check my likes every hour to measure success.
Right Strategy: I track saves, shares, DMs, and profile visits. Those are the Instagram metrics that actually grow a business.

Wrong Strategy: I copy what’s working for bigger accounts.
Right Strategy: I study proven social media marketing strategies and build my own version. My perspective is what makes my content impossible to copy.

Wrong Strategy: I tried for a month and quit when nothing happened.
Right Strategy: Month one is research. A real content marketing strategy uses 30 days of data to get sharper in month two. The brands that win never stop at the beginning.

The difference between brands that grow and brands that just post is always strategy.

Instagram doesn’t show your reels to strangers by default. You have to earn that. Here’s how:

- Use Trial Reels. Instagram created Trial Reels specifically to show your content to non-followers first. Post it as a Trial Reel, let Instagram test it with cold audiences, and if people engage, Instagram pushes it wider automatically.

- Make content people want to send. Shares via DM are the number one signal for reaching people who don’t follow you. Likes matter for your existing audience. Sends are what get you discovered by new ones. Create content that makes someone think “I need to send this to someone.”

- Write keyword-rich captions. Instagram now works like a search engine. Keyword-rich captions outperform hashtag-heavy ones. Write captions the way your audience would search for the topic.

- Don’t share your reel to your story right away. Wait 2 to 3 days before sharing to your story. Let the reel get its own traction first. Then share it to your story for a second boost when momentum starts to slow.

- Stay consistent in one niche. When you post consistently in the same niche, Instagram recognizes your content and starts recommending your account to users who have shown interest in that topic.

Do all five. Stop waiting for the algorithm to find you.

Weak Brand vs Strong Brand

Weak Brand: I have a logo. That’s my brand.
Strong Brand: I have a brand identity. My logo is just one part of it. My colors, fonts, tone, and message all work together so people recognize me before they even read my name.

Weak Brand: I just post whenever I feel like it.
Strong Brand: I own a content niche and show up consistently. My social media strategy tells the algorithm exactly who to recommend me to.

Weak Brand: I follow every trend to stay relevant.
Strong Brand: I build brand authority by showing up with my own perspective. Trends fade. A strong personal brand compounds over time.

Weak Brand: Why do people think I look cheap?
Strong Brand: Because brand identity is your first pitch. If your visuals look unprofessional, no price will ever feel justified to your audience.

Building a strong brand identity is the difference between being forgotten and being chosen.

It wasn’t luck. It wasn’t going viral by accident. Here’s exactly what changed:

- I stopped posting for followers and started posting for shares. Instagram now ranks your reels based on shares more than likes. When someone sends your reel to a friend in DMs, that is the strongest signal you can send the algorithm. So I started asking myself before every post “Would someone send this to a friend?” If the answer was no, I rewrote it.

- I fixed my first 3 seconds. Research shows people decide in under 2 seconds whether to keep watching. Instagram also tracks how many people watch past the first 3 seconds and uses that to decide how far to push your reel. I made my hook a question, a bold statement, or a surprising fact. Every time.

- I posted Trial Reels first. Instagram now lets you post a Trial Reel that goes to non-followers only. If it performs well, Instagram pushes it to your full audience. If it doesn’t, your followers will never see it. I used this to test hooks before going all in.

- I kept my reels under 90 seconds. Reels between 7 and 90 seconds have the highest chance of going viral. Beyond 90 seconds, your reach drops unless your watch time is exceptional.

Fix these four things. Your views will follow.
