PDP REACTS TO COURT JUDGEMENT: PREPARES TO GO ON APPEAL

The Peoples Democratic Party says it does accept the judgement of the Federal High Court Abuja, presided over by Honorable Justice Kolawole Omotosho.

Nevertheless, in PDPโ€™s commitment to the Rule of Law, it has accordingly directed its lawyers to take immediate action to appeal the judgment in its unwavering determination to uphold, defend and promote multi-party democracy in the country.

PDP national publicity secretary Debo Ologunagba in a statement explains that the judgment of the court does not vitiate its ability to proceed with the processes and activities towards the National Convention to elect new National Officers to pilot the affairs of the Party for the next four years.

It notes further that the recent judgement of the Supreme Court affirms the supremacy of a political party in the management of its internal affairs.

The PDP, therefore, charges its members, Chapter and Organs to remain steadfast and focused on preparations towards the National Convention of the Party .

COURT HALTS PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcome of the forthcoming National Convention of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The order was delivered by Justice James Omotosho on Friday, following a suit challenging the legitimacy of the convention.

According to Justice Omotosho, the PDP failed to comply with relevant laws and conditions for conducting such conventions. The judge noted that evidence presented showed that congresses were not held in some states, violating the law. Additionally, the court ruled that the PDP's National Chairman signing notices and correspondence without the National Secretary was a breach of the law, rendering such actions null and void.

The court also faulted the PDP for failing to issue the mandatory 21-day notice of meetings and congresses, which prevented INEC from carrying out its duty of monitoring the events. Justice Omotosho advised the PDP to comply with the law before proceeding with the election.

The court ultimately restrained INEC from receiving, publishing, or recognizing the outcome of the convention scheduled for Ibadan until the PDP complies with the law.

Reacting to the judgment, the PDP National Chairman, Iliya Damagun, and the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, expressed their views on the court's decision. Some party members also welcomed the judgment, stating that it would prevent impunity within the party.
