Governor Ikpeazu Dismisses Speculations on Supporting Tinubu

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has dismissed recent comments credited to Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, as mere speculations and wishful thinking.

Speaking to newsmen after inspecting the ongoing final asphalt overlay on Faulks Road, Aba, Governor Ikpeazu stated that “no member of G5 can railroad another member into supporting anyone against his will as suggested by Senator Kalu”.

It will be recalled that during a recent TV interview , Senator Kalu had said that Tinubu who is from the South West is well liked by the North and is going to get a sizeable vote in the South East with the support of Governor Wike.

Governor Ikpeazu who dismissed Senator Kalu’s statement with a wave of hand, described it as mere wishful thinking and the usual political speculation associated with the season.

Earlier, the Director of Strategic Engagement, Abia State PDP Campaign Council, John Kalu, had in a statement issued in Umuahia assured that there was no truth whatsoever in the statement credited to Senator Kalu.

Naira redesign: Court adjourned hearing to February 22.

The supreme court in a session held this Wednesday has adjourned the hearing of the case brought against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the naira redesign policy to Wednesday, February 22.

With the adjournment, Nigerians are left wondering whether or not the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes remain legal tender.

Abdulhakeem Mustapha, counsel to Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara, who earlier filed a suit against the CBN asked the court to make an order directing the federal government not to implement a deadline on the old notes.

However, a seven-member panel of the apex court led by John Okoro, said there was no need to issue a fresh order as the interim order is pending the hearing on the motion on notice.

However, the Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami said the federal government would obey the order in line with the rule of law.

Recall that despite the assurance to comply with the order, some commercial banks, filling stations, and traders have stopped accepting the old naira notes from customers.
