An artificial pediatric ventricle presented in Barcelona at the world congress of pediatric cardiac surgery!!
The device, called total artificial heart, uses synthetic pumping chambers to replace the diseased and failing left and right ventricles of the recipient’s own heart.
The artificial heart is designed to be used temporarily until a donated heart is available, and recipients have to remain in hospital while the heart is fitted, in some cases as long as two and a half years. The artificial heart is used only in patients who have both ventricles failing and enables 80% of them to survive long enough to receive the donated heart.
Innovation at its finest! ♥️

Which is unethical.
It is very unethical for a non medical Doctor to prescribe drug to patients.

Diclofenac was discovered in the early 1960’s by a German pharmaceutical company called CIBA-GEIGY now (NOVARTIS).
The discovery came when the company was researching about new NSAIDs and accidentally discovered Diclofenac đź’Š while they are trying to synthesize another compound.
After it was discovered, it wasn’t approved for use until 1988. It took so long because the F.D.A was concerned about it gastrointestinal side effect.
Diclofenac đź’Š is an NSAID that is used to treat pain and inflammation associated with gout, arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
Diclofenac is a first line of drug used in treatment of arthritis.
Diclofenac is also a broad spectrum NSAID.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Diclofenac works by inhibiting two enzymes called COX-1 and COX-2. These enzymes are involved in the production of prostaglandins which are the chemicals that cause pain and inflammation.

SIDE EFFECTS OF DICLOFENAC
The most common side effect include stomach upset, heart burn and diarrhea. Some people may experience dizziness, headache and drowsiness.

NOTE: It’s contraindicated to patient with stomach ulcer.

Tonsillar hypertrophy is the medical term for persistently enlarged tonsils. The tonsils are two small glands located on either side of the back of the throat. They’re part of your immune system and help to fight off infections that can be caused by bacteria, viruses, and other germs that enter your body through your nose and mouth. Enlarged tonsils can be a sign of infection or irritation from things like smoke or polluted air. Some people just naturally have larger tonsils. In other cases, there’s no known cause. Tonsillar hypertrophy is particularly common in children, though it can also affect adults. Children commonly get enlarged tonsils, but the condition can affect adults too. Children’s tonsils are generally larger than adult’s because their bodies are busy fighting off the frequent colds and other viruses of childhood. Large tonsils often get smaller on their own as children age. Tonsillar hypertrophy usually only requires treatment if it’s interfering you’re your ability to sleep, eat, or breathe.

However, if it’s caused by an underlying infection, you may need antibiotics. If it’s due to allergies, your doctor might recommend using a nasal corticosteroid spray or taking antihistamines to help with your symptoms.✅Surgery: If your enlarged tonsils interfere with your breathing and aren’t due to any underlying condition, you may need to have them surgically removed. This can help improve the symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea in both adults and children. Surgery to remove the tonsils is called a tonsilectomy.

rarely asked

How much paracetamol can I take in a day for my pain?

The dosing recommendation for paracetamol depends on the strength of the medication. For the 325 mg pills, adults and children over 12 years of age can take up to 2 pills every 4 to 6 hours as needed.

For the 500 mg pills (extra-strength tablets), you can take up to 2 pills every 6 hours. For children, the dosage is based on weight. Your healthcare provider can help determine the right dose for your child.

You should also be aware that paracetamol may also be included in other medications, such as OTC cough and cold products. The dose of paracetamol in these medications may vary, so it’s important to read the package.

The highest dose of acetaminophen you should ever take is 4 grams (4,000 mg) per day for adults and children 12 and over. But a lower daily dose may be better. The manufacturer recommends no more than 3 grams (3,000 mg) daily. This may be a better choice, especially if you have low body weight, drink more than 3 alcoholic drinks a day, or have a fever. A lower dose is also better if you’re taking paracetamol every day for more than a week at a time.

Let’s talk about PHARMACOLOGY OF PARACETAMOL (ACETAMINOPHEN)💊💊

Paracetamol đź’‰ also known as acetaminophen is an OTC drug for pain relieving.
Paracetamol đź’Š was first discovered in the 1800s by a German chemist named Johann Buchner.
Johann Buckner discovered paracetamol by isolating a substance named N-acetyl-para-aminophenol which is the chemical name for paracetamol from coal tar.

It was originally used as a treatment for fever until 1893 when it’s pain relieving properties were discovered.
In 1950 it was then first marked as pain reliever.
Paracetamol 💉💊 is classified under analgesic because of its pain relieving properties.
NOTE: Paracetamol isn’t an NSAIDs

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Paracetamol đź’Šđź’‰ works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins by an enzyme called COX-2 which is involved in inflammation.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Paracetamol đź’Š is contraindicated to people with liver and kidney problem.
Avoid taking more than the dosage as it can lead to serious liver damage.

(SMOKERS LUNG)

Emphysema,(Smokers lungs)also called pulmonary emphysema, condition characterized by widespread destruction of the gas-exchanging tissues of the lungs resulting in abnormally large air spaces. Lungs affected by emphysema show loss of alveolar walls and destruction of alveolar capillaries. As a result, the surface available for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between inhaled air and blood traversing the lungs is reduced. In addition, loss of elastic tissue from the walls of the destroyed alveoli causes the lungs to expand within the chest cage. The expanded lungs compress the small bronchi and thus increase resistance to airflow. This is especially evident during expiration, when contraction of the muscles of the chest wall and abdomen increase intrathoracic pressure and further reduce the passage of air through the small bronchi.

SKIN GRAFTING

Skin grafting is a type of surgery. During this procedure, healthcare providers take healthy skin from one part of the body and transplant (move) it to cover skin that’s damaged or missing. Within a few days, the grafted skin begins to develop blood vessels and connect to the skin around it. Healthcare Providers use skin graft surgery to help people who have damaged skin from burns, injuries, wounds, disease or infection. If you’ve had surgery to remove skin cancer, your healthcare provider may recommend a skin graft to cover the missing skin. The recovery time after this surgery varies depending on your overall health, the size of the graft and the technique your healthcare provider used. Most skin graft procedures are successful the first time. Sometimes, the transplanted skin doesn’t heal well or “take” to the surrounding skin. If this happens, you may need another skin graft.

Most often, providers use healthy skin from a person’s own body. They call this skin graft procedure an autograft. Sometimes, there isn’t enough healthy skin on a person’s body to use for the procedure. If this happens, a healthcare provider may take the skin from a cadaver (allograft). Providers can also use skin from an animal, most commonly a pig (xenograft). Allograft and xenograft skin grafts are usually temporary. They cover the damaged skin until the wound heals or the person grows enough healthy skin to use for a permanent skin graft.✅What does a skin graft treat? Your healthcare provider may recommend a skin graft if you have damaged or missing skin that cannot heal on its own. Skin grafts help people who have skin loss due to:🟤Burns🟠Infection.⚫️Surgery to remove skin cancer (such as moh’s surgery)⚫️Skin ulcers and badsores( pressure injury)🟡Slow-healing wounds or very large wounds.
