Today I was out with a few of my colleagues on an environmental survey when we came across a group of secondary students returning from school, and in the most absurd manner, there was this young girl (probably between JS3 and SS1) who stopped above a gutter at the busy roundabout (facing a store) and thought it was going to be a great idea to ease herself of her urine at that instant.
At first, what drew my attention was the screams from her friends who found it absurd to be done for any reason, but to her, it was more like a challenge; actually, who knows if that was how it all started - but the end of the story is she actually did it, right there; and yes, she was standing while doing it, not in the normal way it is being done. I believe by now you understand my concern in this matter.
Now, my concern is not the fact that she decided to do that at that time and at that place but actually, my true concern is the state at which certain things are being done in society these days without the fear or caution of privacy or integrity by the person in the act. Evidently, these kids see these somewhere and think it's something they can try out, so they do it, and when they see how unopposed they were in doing it they try it again, and by the time multiple of them have the same experience it becomes a norm and something more young lads who are still trying to figure out their way around life want to try.
One of the most disturbing things is that those who are meant to prevent these from happening are part of the perpetrators and the rest hardly stand up to address the issue but rather let them alone under the ideology that "they'll stop when they grow up".
But you can change this narrative by being the person who would speak to the small circle you have in your church, school, neighborhood, and family, till the younger generation knows what is right and what shouldn't be done. Let it start with you.
