Life can get heavy, but your de-stressing routine doesn't have to be. Sometimes the best way to break a stress spiral is to do something so objectively ridiculous that your brain forgets why it was worried in the first place.
Here are a few silly, low-effort ways to reset your nervous system:
1. The "Aggressive" Happy Dance
Put on a song that is aggressively upbeat (think Mr. Blue Sky or a cheesy 90s pop hit) and dance like you have no bones. The goal isn't to look good; it’s to look like a used car lot inflatable tube man.
2. Narrate Your Life Like a Nature Documentary
Start describing your mundane tasks in a hushed, dramatic David Attenborough voice.
"Here we see the human in its natural habitat, struggling to find the matching sock. A rare and confusing display of domestic frustration."
3. The Five-Minute "Bad" Drawing
Grab a pen and a scrap of paper. Give yourself 60 seconds to draw the ugliest, most disproportionate cat possible. Making something intentionally "bad" removes the pressure of perfectionism.
4. Talk to an Inanimate Object
Pick a nearby object—a lamp, a stapler, a houseplant—and tell it your problems. Then, imagine what its advice would be.
The Lamp: "Honestly? Just brighten up."
The Stapler: "Keep it together, man."
5. The Professional "Sigh"
Take a deep breath and let it out with the most dramatic, theatrical sound you can muster. Add a little "blub-blub-blub" with your lips at the end. It’s hard to stay tense when you’re making motorboat noises. Don't let stress kpa you on our daily basis and enjoy your day... good morning.
