FG, Enugu sign Host State Agreement for 2026 National Sports Festival

The Federal Government and Enugu State Government have officially signed the host State agreement for the 2026 National Sports Festival slated to hold in South East State.

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah while signing the agreement in the State House assured the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade and other stakeholders that the State is ready to set a new standard in Sports in Nigeria.

Governor Mbah stated that the State will establish brand-new Games Village in Awgu and renovate Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium and other infrastructure to a world-class standard.

“As you know, we like to be a role model as a state that gained preeminence over 115 years ago. We will not want to let our forebears down. We will live up to that standard".

“We have already set forth at dawn. Immediately that announcement was made, we mobilised our team".

Hon. Olopade revealed that the National Sports Commission granted Enugu State the hosting rights for the 2026 National Sports Festival after a thorough evaluation of the state's bid. The commission was impressed by Enugu's available facilities, improved security, and Governor Mbah's commitment to enhancing sports and social infrastructure.

Governor Mbah stated that Enugu State will through the National Sports Festival boost tourism and drive investment and development into the State.
