Emeka was a well-known trader in Alaba market. From nothing, he built a successful electronics business and became a rich man. But Emeka had one habit. He never enjoyed his money.
His wife would beg, “Nna, let us travel or at least eat good food.”
He always replied, “No, enjoyment is waste. Better we save.”
So, while his friends built mansions, Emeka’s family lived in an old house. He drove one rickety Toyota, wore faded clothes, and ate beans and garri almost every night. His children wanted small treats, but he always said, “Tomorrow fit be tough, we must save.”
At sixty-five, sickness struck. Within months, Emeka died.
After the burial, his will was read. The family discovered millions in banks, lands in Lagos and Enugu, even hidden investments. Shock turned to excitement.
The first son bought a Benz, the second opened a lounge, the daughters traveled to Dubai and London. Even his wife, who suffered in old wrappers, started wearing lace and gold at every party.
The money Emeka guarded with iron hands was finally chopped but just not by him.
