UPDATE: Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has reportedly concluded plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) next week, Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Reliable sources within both parties confirmed that the move, described as “the biggest political realignment in the South-East since 1999,” will see Mbah join the APC with 24 lawmakers, 260 councillors, and the entire PDP structure in Enugu.

Insiders say Mbah’s defection follows the PDP’s prolonged leadership crisis and marginalization of the South-East in key party decisions.
The APC has already inaugurated a caretaker committee in Enugu ahead of the defection.

BREAKING: Omoyele Sowore, activist and AAC presidential candidate, has set October 20 as the date for the protest in Abuja.

He says the protest will be “historic,” peaceful, and directed toward the A*o Rock Villa, demanding the release of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who remains in DSS custody despite multiple court orders for his release.

Sowore also called on South-East leaders, including Peter Obi, Charles Soludo, Alex Otti, and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, to join the march.

BREAKING: Former Abia State Governor and Senate Majority Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared himself the most important politician from the South-East region, not Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Kalu said his political record and experience surpass Obi’s, adding that he had previously won two states under the PPA and contested for president in 2007.

Kalu said: “He’s not my leader. I am the most important politician from that zone. I have won two states before under PPA. I ran for president before; my 4.9 million votes in 2007 are still there.”

The senator added that he could still run for president in the future, saying age would not be a barrier to his ambitions.
