Did you know that Highlife legend and folklorist Mike Ejeagha was buried just 24 hours after he passed?

That wasn’t a family decision, it was his last wish.
Before his death, the iconic folklorist made a simple but powerful request:

“When I die, do not take me to a mortuary, and do not embalm me. Dig a grave and bury me within 24 hours of my passing.”

At the family’s convenience, they may organize the traditional rites.

True to his words, he was laid to rest swiftly and with dignity, in full alignment with the traditional Igbo values he championed through music and storytelling.

🎼 A man who spent decades preserving Igbo proverbs, idioms, and ancestral wisdom chose to leave the world the same way he lived, rooted in culture and simplicity.

Before the passing of legendary Igbo folklorist Pa Mike Ejeagha at 95, his music made a massive comeback.

Last year, Brainjotter used his 1983 song “Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche” in a dance video, and just like that, it went viral. The song climbed to #81 on Apple Music Nigeria, making Pa Mike the oldest Nigerian artist to ever enter the chart.

His album “Akụkọ N’egwu Original Vol. 1” also entered the Spotify Nigeria Top 100 Albums, 41 years after it dropped.

It wasn’t luck. It was legacy.
He saw the love. He felt the impact. He knew he was appreciated.
