Band!ts demand N20m levies, taxes monthly from Benue communities

Suspected armed bandits operating in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State have reportedly commenced the collection of taxes and levies from residents of Torough and nearby communities.

It was gathered, yesterday, from a resident of the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of being attacked, that the gangs introduced a levy of N20 million as monthly tax to be paid by each household.

He said they had already started gathering the levy after allocating each household their share of the tax since they had no option but to comply.

He pointed out that no one, including the village heads, dared challenge the authority of the armed gangs or report the matter to security agencies stressing: โ€œWe are more or less in b0ndage here. There is no complete freed0m of movement, association or expression. These mi|itia boys are very deadly and powerful here in our Sankera axis.

Mum Abandoned 5 Month Baby For Dad

I took my car for servicing and saw what I consider as worthy of more urgent attention than my car.
When I got to the mechanic's workshop located at Etta Agbor layout in Calabar, I noticed that one of the mechanics cuddled a very tender baby on his way to the workshop.
As soon as I saw that unusual sight, I felt that the baby's mom or someone else would join him to either take the baby back home or nurse her while he attends to work.
But that wasn't the case.

I noticed that the baby was still at the workshop when I went back there to pick my car, after several hours.
She looked frail and uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, her Dad was eating groundnut and chatting loudly with other mechanics at the workshop.

I felt empathy for the baby and told her that she would be a great child.
My statement was a prayer.
Her Dad and other mechanics heard me and answered "amen" on her behalf.

When I asked the mechanic about the whereabouts of his wife, he said "she don run go Akwa Ibom".
He further told me that the baby's name is Blessing and she is 7 months old.
According to him, Blessing's mom left him 5 months ago and he has been her sole caretaker since then.
He said "na me alone de", when I asked him about his relatives and relatives of his "wife".
Very odd.

As we all know, a mechanic's workshop isn't a child-friendly place.
It isn't a creche.
This means that Blessing is deprived of a friendly environment, motherly love, family care and neighbourliness.
I told her Dad that this shouldn't continue.
I also got his permission to take a picture of him and Blessing.
See them.

Blessing deserves better attention than she is currently receiving.
Therefore, I appeal to kind hearted individuals and organizations out there who may want to do something good for her to call her Dad on this phone number and speak with him: 07082925035. His name is James Emina.
Thank you and may God bless those who will attend to my appeal.

By Okechukwu Nnodim

Kindly share this story:

The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, should drop to about N300/litre upon the commencement of massive production by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other indigenous producers, operators of modular refineries stated on Sunday.

However, they pointed out that this would be achieve when the government ensures the provision of adequate crude oil to local refiners, stressing that refineries abroad were ripping off Nigeria.

Speaking under the aegis of the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria, they explained that what happened to the cost of diesel after Dangote started producing it, would happen to petrol price once it is being produced massively in Nigeria.

CORAN is a registered association of modular and conventional refinery companies in Nigeria.

Ogun community water crisis: The true story

โ€œA lot of companies today benefit from the importation of petroleum products at the expense of Nigerians,โ€ the Publicity Secretary, CORAN, Eche Idoko, stated.

He told our correspondent that โ€œif we begin to produce PMS today in large volumes, provided there is adequate crude oil supply, I can assure that we should be able to buy PMS at N300/litre as the pump price.

โ€œWhy make Nigerians buy it at almost N700/litre when you know that if you allow refineries work the price will come down? Is it because you want to satisfy the global refiners abroad that are making so much from us?โ€

When told that there are arguments that it is not possible to have such a drop in price because crude oil, the raw material for PMS, is price in dollars, the CORAN official insisted that petrol price would crash once it is being produced massively by in
