DO'S AND DON'T
Most women trust contraceptive pills for preventing pregnancy. Contraceptive pills usually trick your body that you are already pregnant, they also prevent women from ovulating and then creating cervical mucus that is thick enough to prevent the s***m from penetrating.
It is therefore important to know what to do and what not to do so that you can maximize their effectiveness while minimizing the side effects.
There are two types of contraceptive pills; combination pills and progestin-only pills.
DO'S for contraceptive pills
• You have to take one pill for combination pills per day, it is important to take it at an almost exact time for it to be more effective.
• As for progestin-only pills, you have to take this within a period of three hours each day to be protected from getting pregnant.
• In case you want to get pregnant, you just need to stop taking any contraceptive pill that you are on. Your period may take time to be regular but pregnancy is a big possibility.
• In case you are on the mini-pills, it is important to observe the hour you take this on a daily basis every day. Once you finish one pack, begin the next pack the following day at the same time.
The DON'TS for contraceptive pills
• You should not take contraceptive pills in the case where you have or have experienced health issues such as blood clotting disorder, breast cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack, liver disease and migraines.
• Do not forget to take them on a daily basis and at the set time. If you forget, you are more likely to get pregnant.
• Do not ingest combination pills in the first three weeks of breastfeeding. Wait until after three weeks so that you can begin taking them. It is important to also consult with your doctor about this.
• In case you are on the 21 days pills, do not take any pills on the fourth week.
