Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has warned that if urgent steps are not taken to support poultry farmers, prices of eggs may increase from the current N5,500 to N10,000 per crate.

They attributed the rising cost of the protein to high cost of transportation as a result of fuel subsidy removal as well as indiscriminate increase in prices of feed by the millers.

The Secretary of PAN, FCT Chapter Musa Hakeem said this at a press briefing to commemorate the World Egg Day on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in Abuja.

Hakeem said the FG must as a matter of urgency declare a State of emergency on Egg production in the country given the serious decline in protein intake, saying Nigerians can not afford to depend on importation of eggs.

“If we should go by the proportional increase in the prices of these factors mentioned earlier, we will be buying eggs at N10,000 per create, but because we wanted to be compassionate, coupled with the important of eggs for health, we left the price at the current price of N5,500.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has condoled with the families of the three media persons killed in a kidnapping ambush in Anambra.
The victims were part of a SuperSport crew traveling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom to broadcast the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya — a game the Super Eagles won on October 11.
They were said to have been ambushed along Ihiala-Orlu Road on Tuesday while traveling from Lagos to Uyo.
The suspected bandits were said to have opened fire on the bus carrying the crew members and security personnel, resulting in the deaths of a cameraman, a police officer, and the bus driver.

The Lagos State Government has pleaded with the youths to enroll in the military.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made the appeal on Wednesday during the quarterly meetings with the Chairman and members of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, in Ikeja.

Salu-Hundeyin said that security of a nation was everybody’s business and being in the military was a service to the state and the nation at large. According to her, it was disheartening to know that indigenous youths of the state were not enrolling into the military, as seen during the last recruitment.

She added that the FG has said that recruitment into the military must be on an equal number, that each state has 150 slots into the military.

“We discovered that in the military in Nigeria, Lagos State has been seriously short-changed. We hardly have people there. So, we are looking at this opportunity now, that it should not escape indigenes again.

Only 500 out of over 2,000 Nigerians living in Lebanon have registered with the Nigerian Embassy in Beirut for evacuation as the conflict between Israel & Hezbollah escalates.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on October 5 said despite the embassy’s efforts to encourage them to return home, many Nigerians remain hesitant to leave.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Presidency, National Emergency Management Agency, Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission & other relevant bodies, is coordinating the evacuation exercise to ensure the safe return of Nigerians from Lebanon.

Presently, about 500 Nigerians have registered with the mission, however, there are more than 2,000 Nigerian citizens residing in the country

Even though most of them have not indicated a willingness to return home despite the persuasion by our embassy, we will continue to do everything to ensure the safety of our citizens

The Enugu State Government has demolished yet another property connected to kidnapping activities.

The action, which took place in Amaebo Owelli Autonomous Community, Awgu Local Government Area, is part of the government’s ongoing crackdown on properties linked to criminal activities. The mansion was reportedly used as a hideout for kidnappers to hold their victims.

According to Hon. Uche Anya, Executive Chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, the property in question had been a den for kidnappers, where victims were tortured and ransomed. Notably, a kidnapping incident from May 2024, where a male victim was filmed with AK-47 rifles pointed at his head, occurred within the same building. Following the incident, security agencies were able to track down the property, rescue the victim, arrest most of the kidnappers, and recover a cache of arms and ammunition.

More than half of new HIV cases in Britain are found in migrants infected abroad

According to the UK Health Safety Agency (UKHSA), in 2023, 53% of all HIV diagnoses were made in migrants who had already come to the country infected. Most of these were from East Africa, with a further 22% from other parts of the continent. 8% of patients identified their place of birth as being in Asia, Latin America or the Caribbean.

UKHSA also noted a 36% increase in HIV cases among heterosexual men and a 30% increase among heterosexual women (in the last year). Charities say the findings demonstrate that the government's target of halting new HIV cases in England by 2030 is in jeopardy.

Nollywood veteran Binta Ayo Mogaji is urging women over 35 to think about having children outside of marriage.

In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the 60-year-old actress, who became a mother at 40, encouraged unmarried women who want to experience motherhood to explore the option of having children without waiting for marriage.

“What I’m saying is, once you’re 35 or older and you don’t have a husband, but there’s someone in your life who is with you but not ready for marriage, and he wants a child, have a child with him, even if he won’t accept responsibility for the child.

When she is looking for a husband at 35, they’ll say she’s too old and won’t be able to wash clothes for her mother-in-law or be controlled. They’ll advise the man to find a younger lady to listen to him. Even if she’s fortunate to marry at that age, she’ll already be old when her child grows up.

Don’t ever think they are fighting me; they are not fighting me. I’m too big. If you don’t recognize someone who is bigger than you, then you are sick. I’m far far, all of them put together.” Wike hit back at the PDP governors who are supporting Fubara.
