Today in History: October 2nd

On October 2, 1968, a remarkable humanitarian effort took place as Biafran children were airlifted to safety by the International Red Cross and Terre des Hommes, escaping the devastating effects of war. These young lives were flown from Biafra to Libreville, Gabon, in search of refuge and a chance at a better future. After the war, many of our people never came back again.

Today, I ask: are you on the side of humanity? As leaders, influencers, and individuals, let's reflect on our values and actions. Are we guided by compassion, empathy, and a commitment to doing what's right? Or do we compromise our values for personal gain or convenience?

Their story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of conflict on families and communities. Let's honor the bravery and resilience of those who were saved and the organizations that made it possible.

In Igbo culture, there is something called "iju ase," which is basically a background check. You go and ask about the lady and where she comes from. This includes, but is not limited to, social media posts, the school she went to, and her bloodline to see if she is an ogbanje (a spirit child in Igbo mythology believed to cause misfortune) or a harbinger, bringer, or invoker of all things evil. But in this day of social media, nobody cares to ask anything. Once you see the beautiful or physical appearance of the person, you fall in love because of all this; today, many are experiencing separation and divorce. It happens to many families today. Men are not taking time to study who they want to marry. In Igbo culture, it is the man who goes to the woman for marriage, not the woman who goes. If any checking is done, it should be the man who does it first. Both can check, but the man's house is where both will stay, not the woman's place. So, as social media is a place to find a wife to marry, it's fair to say that before you take someone seriously, dig into all their social media platforms, not only real-life digging. Many may say the past doesn't count, but with this lady's posts now, you can learn a lesson. Even Satan knows the power of the past, so he keeps people busy doing nonsense and ruining their lives. After several years, he shows up just above when your lifting is near to you.
