‎WORLD BREAST FEEDING WEEK: ETINAN COUNCIL LUNCHES CAMPAIGN SATURDAY AUGUST 8

‎As the global community marks the 2026 World Breast Feeding Week, Etinan Local Government Area has concluded plans to project the essence of breast feeding amongst nurturing mothers.

The event is taking place on Saturday , August 8, 2026 at the Primary Health Centre, Secretariat Road. Etinan by 10.00am.

The event which is in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health,Akwa Ibom State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in collaboration with CARELIFE CHARACTER FOUNDATION,a non-governmental organization (NGO).

A press statement from the office of the Chairman, Etinan Local Government Area invites pregnant women, guardians/parents as well as children under the age of five with nutrition defects.

‎This year's theme to mark the World breast feeding week is BREAST FEEDING FOR SUSTAINABLE START IN LIFE emphasizes the need for pregnant women/mothers who have already given birth to ensure exclusive breast feeding of their child/children. The breast milk is of basic value to the sound development, growth and nourishing of babies undergoing the process of growth.

‎Amongst the lofty packages, to mark the week includes;ultra-sound scanning,free ante-natal care,breast feeding support/counseling, healthcare services for children, ranging from birth to five (05) years of age, tuberculosis screening, birth registration and premium strategic enrollment into the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme, completely free.

‎The impacting healthcare services is held under the host of the Executive Chairman Etinan LGA,Hon. Uko Umoh(FCLIM) alongside the office of the first lady Mrs. Emily Uko Umoh

‎It's an opportunity to safeguarding the welfare of women and their wards (Children) and you can't afford and all pregnant women nursing mothers are cordially invited.

REPS PASS EXECUTIVE BILL ON STATE POLICE

The Bill introduces stronger provisions bordering on conditions under which the Federal Government may intervene in a state's policing operations during serious security threats, coordination between the Nigeria Police Force and State Police Services, clearer command and jurisdictional arrangements to reduce conflicts and more detailed accountability and regulatory mechanisms for state police operations.

Detailed highlights of the legislation include;

- Creation of State Police

- Retention of the Nigeria Police Force

- Constitutional Amendments

- State Police Service Commission.

Each state would establish a State Police Service Commission responsible for:
1. Appointment of officers.
2. Promotion.
3. Discipline.
4. General personnel management.
5. Ensuring professionalism.

- Appointment of State Commissioner of Police

- Office of the State Attorney-General to exercise prosecutorial oversight over offences investigated by the State Police in accordance with constitutional provisions.

- Clearly Defined Jurisdiction between the Nigeria Police Force, State Police, and Other security agencies.

- Operational Coordination, including; Intelligence sharing, Joint operations, Cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and State Police, Conflict resolution where jurisdictions overlap.

- Training: State governments establishing police services must:
1. Provide adequate funding.
2. Supply equipment.
3. Build infrastructure.
4. Cater for personnel welfare and training.

- Recruitment
Recruitment into State Police is expected to prioritise residents or indigenes with sufficient knowledge of local communities while maintaining national standards on education, training and integrity.

- Accountability and Oversight
The report proposes safeguards including:
1. Civilian oversight.
2. Internal disciplinary procedures.
3. Legislative oversight.
4. Judicial review.
5. Human rights compliance.
6. Independent complaints mechanisms.

- Professional Standards.
The standards apply to:
1. Training.
2. Use of fi****ms.
3. Investigations.
4. Ethics.
5. Discipline.
6. Human rights compliance.

- Safeguards Against Abuse. Recognising concerns that governors could misuse State Police, the report incorporates provisions intended to:

1. Prevent political intimidation.
2. Protect opposition parties.
3. Ensure operational independence.
4. Provide constitutional remedies where abuse occurs.

- Transitional Arrangements.
The report contains transitional provisions to guide:

1. Establishment of State Police institutions.
2. Transfer of assets where necessary.
3. Recruitment and training.
4. Gradual operationalisation after constitutional approval.

The Akwa Ibom State Government Students Bursary application portal will officially open on Monday, 20th July, 2026, and payments will commence after successful registration and verification.

Requirements:
✅ Be an indigene of Akwa Ibom State.
✅ Be a student of a recognized public tertiary institution.
✅ Admission Letter.
✅ Student ID Card.
✅ School Fees Receipt.
✅ Certificate of Origin.
✅ Valid NIN.
✅ Recent Passport Photograph.
✅ Valid Bank Account (in your name).

4,000 young Nigerians will be trained by National Power Training Institute of Nigeria and certified by Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency to expand the national installer pool and unlock meaningful income opportunities for the trainees as they support large-scale meter deployment across the country.

STATEWIDE MONTHLY ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION EXERCISE FOR JUNE 2026 WITH FULL RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT

The general public is hereby notified that the Government of Akwa Ibom State has approved the conduct of the June 2026 edition of the statewide Monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise on Saturday, June 27, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m with full restriction of human and vehicular movement.

This restriction is aimed at ensuring full compliance with the sanitation directive, thereby preserving and enhancing Akwa Ibom’s reputation for excellence in environmental management and sanitation.

The State Government therefore enjoins community leaders, stakeholders and residents across the state to actively participate and mobilize their communities for a successful ex*****on of the exercise, in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, Except for those performing essential duties.
