EBE ANI-OKENE FESTIVAL: A CELEBRATION OF RICH CULTURAL HERITAGE.

In the aftermath of Eid Fitr, the 2025 Okene Ebe Festival emerges precisely on the 4th (Unehe) and the main event (Eku-Irahu) on the 5th of April 2025, as a unique and captivating celebration, steeped in tradition and culture.

With a history spanning over a century, this festival was initially conceived and initiated in Okene by HRH Attah Omadivi Abonika upon his coronation. It is believed that "the celebration of Ebe marks a time where farmers take rest after a successful planting season"

One of the distinctive features of Ebe Ani Okene is the ceremonial outing of Aneku Ibagi, also known as Abokiribo. This revered figure traverses the community, dispensing dates and conveying goodwill messages from our ancestors. This tradition serves as a poignant reminder of our cultural roots and the importance of honoring our heritage.

The Ebe Festival is marked by a spectacular display of first-class masquerades, each performing philosophical songs replete with wisdom and moral lessons. Some of these masquerades include:

1. Okevere Ada-Ebe (Eru-Kenge) of Ogu clan

2. Avokuta (Onyakunyaku/Al-heri) of Omoye Clan
3. Arijenu Idoji (Ohomorihi Ohuni) of Ogu clan
4. Oguame Otovessa (Od'uekunasu) of Omoye clan
5. Ochebira Idare of Ogu clan
6. Sementy Enyi-Inare of Omoye clan.
7. Avereho Okengwe of Adiyaya Clan.
8. Avokuta Okengwe of Akuta Clan
9. Oganireba Igaruwa Okengwe of Omoye Clan.
The aforementioned masquerades are vistas to behold with spectacular performance and acme of pure and undiluted culture.

The Ebe Festival is a testament to the enduring power of culture and tradition. It serves as a vital link to our collective past, fostering a sense of community, identity, and shared values.

- Promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation
