‎Benue football is truly growing in a “special” way.
‎
‎At a time when other states are investing heavily in women’s football and youth development, Benue once had a proudly active female team Benue Queens FC representing the state with passion, courage, and consistency on the national stage. The ladies carried the dreams of many young girls who believed football could become more than just a passion.
‎Ironically, while promises of restructuring, technical development, feeder teams, and long-term football planning continue to dominate official statements, the same female football structure that once gave Benue pride now appears silent.
‎
‎The last visible activity on the Benue Queens platform dates back months ago, leaving many sports lovers asking quiet questions nobody seems ready to answer.
‎Even more ironic is how sending people to courses and institutes now appears to be the new scoreboard for football progress, while actual functioning teams gradually fade from the scene. Certificates are moving, but football itself seems to be standing still.
‎
‎Benue is blessed with talents. From Makurdi to Gboko, Otukpo to Katsina-Ala, young girls still dream of wearing the state colors someday. But dreams need platforms, not just promises.If truly the future of football in Benue includes youth development and female participation as publicly stated, then the sports community deserves to see those words translated into visible action again not only in press releases, but on pitches,league tables, training grounds, and active club activities.
The Benue sports community remains hopeful that one day, women’s football in the state will return from this long silence and reclaim its rightful place.

‎OUR TRADITIONAL RULERS MUST START ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS ON SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

‎In 2023, the Benue State FA led by Chairman Paul Edeh paid a royal visit to the palace of the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, where discussions centered on football development, revival of the historic BCC Lions FC, rehabilitation of the J.S Tarka Stadium and youth engagement through sports. The Tor Tiv was also named Grand Patron of the Benue State FA.

‎BCC Lions is not just any club. It was once the pride of Northern Nigeria, winning the Nigerian FA Cup and even conquering Africa in 1990. Today, the club is practically dead, while thousands of talented Benue youths roam the streets without opportunities.
‎
‎As custodians of our people and future, our traditional rulers must go beyond ceremonial endorsements and begin demanding accountability from sports administrators and government officials.
‎Where are the promised revivals?
‎Where are the functioning stadiums?
‎Where are the youth development structures?
‎
‎Sports remains one of the biggest untapped tools for empowerment, peace and employment in Benue State, yet neglect continues year after year.
‎Benue youths deserve better. Football in Benue deserves serious leadership, not endless promises.

Benue Sports Center, the official media promoters of MFS, wishes to formally inform all intending participating teams ahead of the upcoming MFS 2027 season that every team is strongly encouraged to have a dedicated social media handler.

This initiative is aimed at improving media coverage, team visibility, match publicity, player promotion, and overall engagement throughout the competition.Teams are advised to make the necessary preparations as the new season approaches.

Benue football is bleeding, and sadly, the people meant to protect it are helping to destroy it. The so called Benue State League has exposed once again how poorly structured football administration has become under the Benue FA. From dangerous 2:00pm kickoff times under harsh sun to the complete absence of transparency on prize money and player remuneration, one question keeps echoing across the state,are these athletes truly valued or simply being used?

‎The slogan now everywhere is “The Governor is not giving shishi,” but must athletes and football lovers continue suffering because of administrative excuses? If there is no funding, why organise a league without proper planning, welfare, sponsorship structure, media visibility, or safety considerations for players? Football is not punishment. Young talents cannot continue risking their health while officials sit comfortably away from the pitch. Fans are also shut out because nobody wants to sit under unbearable afternoon heat to watch matches that should have been properly scheduled.

‎Even more shameful is the fact that the league has practically become a Makurdi-only competition. What happened to clubs and talents from Katsina-Ala, Otukpo, Gboko, Vandeikya, Adikpo and other parts of Benue? A state league should unite the entire state, not reduce football to a local gathering because of poor organisation and lack of structure. Benue is blessed with talents, but talent alone cannot survive incompetence. Benue athletes deserve better. Football deserves leadership, not excuses.

‎The return of the Benue State Football League should have been a moment of excitement for clubs, players, and football lovers across the state. Sadly, the fixtures already raise serious concerns about the poor handling of the competition by the organizers. Matches fixed for 2:00pm under the harsh afternoon sun are not only unfriendly to fans, but also dangerous to the health and fitness of players. Football is meant to entertain the people, so how do you expect supporters to leave work or businesses under hot weather just to watch games played at inconvenient hours?

‎Beyond the scheduling, another major concern remains the silence around tournament finances. Up till now, there has been no clear public information about the prize money for winners, what participating clubs will gain, or what players themselves are earning from risking their health in such conditions. Many are beginning to ask questions: is this truly about developing football, or another rushed competition designed mainly to attract government attention and possible funding without proper structure?

‎The Benue State FA must understand that leagues are supposed to create opportunities, exposure, and development for young players not just hurried two-week competitions lacking proper planning. If football in Benue must grow, organizers need to prioritize player welfare, fan engagement, transparency, and professionalism. Benue football has talents waiting to shine, but talent alone cannot survive on poor organization.
