Thank You All

From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of goodwill and birthday wishes I received worldwide. I remain deeply grateful to all who marked the day in one way or another, not to mention Nigerian youths, the Obidient family and the members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, renowned for their apostolate to the poor.

As for me, while I deeply appreciate the gestures of celebration, I must once again reiterate that I do not personally celebrate birthdays. I recall vividly when I turned 50, during my time as Governor. Many institutions and individuals approached me with elaborate plans for the occasion.

One institution generously offered to build a house for me in the village. When I asked for the estimated cost, they said it would be ₦120 million. I humbly requested that the funds be redirected to build classrooms in three educational institutions at Agulu, Ekwulobia and Abatete. They obliged—and the impact was far-reaching.

Another group had budgeted ₦20 million for a lavish party. I graciously asked them to consider using the funds to purchase desktop computers for schools. Their eventual donation of 200 desktops was distributed to schools across the state, enhancing learning for many students.

In a similar spirit of redirection, another organisation—whose intention had originally been to celebrate me—ended up donating buses, which we distributed to institutions in need, including one that went to the legendary Old Rangers Association.

This has been my consistent approach over the years. On each birthday, I use the opportunity to redirect goodwill towards causes that uplift others.

As I turned 64 years old yesterday, I must confess that the current state of our nation makes the idea of personal merriment even more difficult to contemplate. The scale of suffering and deprivation among our people weighs heavily on the conscience. This is why I have once again requested that all those who wish to celebrate me should instead channel their resources towards helping the poor or supporting our struggling health and educational institutions.

On my part, I have chosen this day to renew my personal commitment to continue supporting the institutions of state in the best way I can, especially those that directly serve the people.

Providentially, I was in Rome, at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs, and my birthday coincided with this visit. I used this sacred opportunity, as I always do when I am in Nigeria, to remember you all in prayer. I especially prayed for our beloved country, Nigeria—that God may touch the hearts of our leaders, and awaken in them the realisation that public funds are meant for the public good.

May we all find strength and grace to keep striving for a more just, compassionate, and equitable society.

Thank you, once again.

Anambra PDP guber aspirant, Jude Ezenwa alive

Jude Ezenwafor, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State, who was shot by unknown gunmen in Abuja, is reported alive, contrary to speculations about his death.

A press release from his media campaign office, Ifeabata Media Team, Ezenwafor, who was shot in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Friday night, is alive and recuperating in an undisclosed private hospital in the nation’s capital.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to Sahara Reporters that the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party-PDP, Amb. Sir Jude C. Ezenwafor (KSJI), is dead.

“The above report is misleading, malicious and fake, aimed at diverting public attention and creating a wrong impression on the circumstances surrounding the attack on the governorship candidate in Wuse 2, Abuja, FCT. We want to state categorically that Hon. Jude sustained various degrees of injuries in his two legs, yet to be operated on any moment from now. He is very stable and receiving adequate treatment from a private hospital in Abuja.

“The media should refrain from making or publicising unverified news for public consumption, especially on an intricate issue of such magnitude. Our candidate is in a stable condition. We urge you to pray for his quick recovery and the success of his surgical operation.”

The internet has been awash with news circulating that the candidate of PDP had died of complications arising from injuries he sustained during the attack.

Congratulations, His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi on your 64th birthday on July 19, 2025.

Mr Peter Obi clarifies visit to Daura on second day

**************************
Yesterday morning, after a condolence visit to the family of the late Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, I tried to be in Daura, Katsina State to attend the burial of our late President Muhammadu Buhari, but all my efforts proved abortive, due to the logistical challenge beyond my control.

I immediately sent a message to a member of late President Buhari’s family explaining my situation. He graciously replied that it was quite understandable, and I made a promise to come today.

Today, accompanied by Senators Ireti Kingibe, Okey Ezea, and Obidient National Coordinator Dr. Tanko Yunusa, I was in Daura with Vice President Shettima, Former Vice President Atiku, Senate President Akpabio, Governor Radda of Katsina, Governor Zulum of Borno State, and many other dignitaries, to pay our last respects to the late President Muhammadu Buhari and to console his family.

I recall vividly meeting with President Buhari in 2022 during my campaign. He said to me: “Peter, you seem to be everywhere and loved by the people. And I wish you the best, please, if you win, do not forget the poor.”

That moment has been the thought I have had since the news of his demise. His concern for the poor should remain a reminder to us all.

May the Almighty God, who has called both our late President and the Awujale of Ijebuland to eternal rest, grant them peace, and comfort their families and indeed our dear nation, as their passing is a deep loss to Nigeria. May their legacies of service and dignity never be forgotten.

Atiku resigns from PDP, says party diverges from the foundational principles

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Atiku, currently a key member of the opposition coalition,
hinged his resignation on the “trajectory” the party has taken. He disclosed that the PDP has diverted from its founding principles.

Atiku’s resignation letter dated July 14, 2025 was addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Ward, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The letter he signed reads: “I am writing to formally resign my membership from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

“I would like to take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the opportunities I have been given by the Party.

“Serving two full terms as Vice President of Nigeria and being a Presidential candidate twice has been one of the most significant chapters of my life.

“However, I find it necessary to part ways due to the current trajectory the Party has taken, which I believe diverges from the foundational principles we stood for.

“It is with a heavy heart that I resign, recognizing the irreconcilable differences that have emerged.

“I wish the Party and its leadership all the best in the future. Thank you once again for the opportunities and support.

“As a founding father of this esteemed Party, it is indeed heartbreaking for me to make this decision.”
